Drivetrain Alot of Questions for you guys.
I have a MCO and Im getting a Helix Exhaust system, I like loudness and powerful! Whats the biggest gaining hp exhaust system? Same question for the intake. I was thinking about getting the PiperCross Viper. Good. Tell me the best thats on the market for my MCO!undefined
Justin,
You will have to tell us all what a MCO is . I am assuming that you mean MCS. MCO has died in name, but not Spirit. That was the name of this board before it was switched to North American Motoring.
To get onto your question. No matter what anyone tells you here all of the intakes and exhaust make roughly the same hp/torque. I would argue with anyone here, whether anyone can feel one or two hp. Since the power is nearly the same you are going to want to look at cost, appearance and sound out of all the options.
First, Intake. Since you have narrowed it down to power I will base it on that. Randy appears to be the only third party consistently posting dyno results across a broad range of products, I will use his numbers. The highest producing intake appears to be the Alta, but it is by only 1hp. The Alta is $259 and does look cool since it comes with a neat silicone hose which can be different colors (i.e. blue, red...). If you want to save some money and put it toward the exhaust, I would go with the Pilo Intake. It is still one of the most attractive on the market, makes 6hp and is only $148. So a savings of about $111 for the loss of 1hp, which you can't feel.
Second, Exhaust. Since you have narrowed it down to power, with a slant to loudness, and again using Randy's numbers, I would go with the Magnaflow. It is roughly in the $600 range and it is loud and makes the most hp. There are so many other factors that go into the exhaust and new ones are coming around the corner. Some have more torque, which may be more useful to you than hp. Some are loud but have serious drone issues with them, while other have a lot of hp, but look aweful. All of the exhausts on the market are between 7-10hp. Almost no discernable difference. To me the more important features of an exhaust are looks and sound, with power being secondary. Also weight may be a factor for you as well. You will also not realize as much power without the pulley installed, so that makes a difference as well. I would call Rany up at WebbMotorsports (www.webbmotorsports.com) to discuss some of your wishes and he can help pick out an excellent exhaust and intake for you.

I think dgszweda1's comments are for the MCS only not the MC-

JustinMINIKurtz,
Aloha and welcome to NAM,
By MCO I will assume you mean MC short for MINI Cooper since you mentioned the Helix exhaust and that model is only for the MC. Also you mentioned PiperCross Viper and so far that is also only for the MC but the new MCS version is about to be released by Diamond Racing.
So back to the MC. There has been tremendous discussion about upgrades to the MC but realize this. The MINI ONE is the standard cooper in Europe and the MC is the upgraded and modded version of that car so there is not much more you can do to make the MC more powerful. If you can add about 10-12 more HP that would be pretty good from a realistic point of view. All of the appearance, interior, audio, suspension and wheel upgrades available to the MCS are also workable and beneficial for the MC.
So Powerful? Well that is a matter of opinion. For added loudness I would recommend:
Helix exhaust-good power and louder than most.
PiperCross Viper for the loudness of the air intake not really for added power although they do advertise big gains. The reality of it is many of the intakes are very very close in power including just the drop in filters- Unifilter-foam, Alta foam, or Green filter are all about $39-45 and will work.
You didn't mention a budget but if the sky is the limit then:
MiniMania Exhaust header with sport cat- makes the exhaust louder and adds a little HP-$750
ECU upgrade- wait for the GIAC -maybe more will come but few make that much difference now.
Lightweight 16" wheels and sticky tires.

Performance Wheel/Tire Package
4 Monza 16x6.5" wheels with 4 215/45-16 Falken Azenis tires, mounted and balanced, all hardware included. [Falken Azenis]
Price: $1050 silver, $1090 white
AK Tire Monza 16" Wheels
This wheel is a strong and light 16x6.5" 44mm offset, which makes it legal for any stock class in SCCA or BMWCCA. The Monza weighs a mere 13.9 lbs, and the open spoke design assists with brake cooling. Avaialble in silver and white. [Silver] [White]
Price: $155 silver, $165 white

i believe he's talking about the Cooper and the last time I looked, I believe the Helix exhaust makes the most power on the Cooper. I've driven a Cooper with it and it sounds absolutely amazing (maybe better than my UUC) but a word of warning for you...IT'S LOUD!
Raining right hand like the Tobacco execs did......
"I believe he's talking about the Mini Cooper-Original in
which case none of your suggestions are correct".
(OK, I just laughed from all the "I believe..." comments.)
