Intercooler Air Diverter?

I'm wanting to get one of these but don't know who still offers them, I found out that Alta removed has it from their website. (waiting for Aaron to call me back about it) Any info would help me out please.

We stock, use and recommend the DDMworks. It fits great, and has 3 blades to divert air, and you can get it in stainless so it will never rust. Plus it seals to the hood all the way, if you look at an Alta they don't due to the bend in the hood, so not all the air is diverted to the intercooler.

Here is a link to it.

I have the Alta & for what I paid (bought used here on NAM) it's been great. As Way says it can & does rust. If I was buying one today it for sure would be the DDM version, it's a very nice piece.

EDIT.... I bought my air diverter used. No way I believe that it is ALTA's problem it rusted. Buying used = as is no warranty to me. That being said Jarid has offered to help me out if I desired. Very nice.

I tried to email you yesterday but it got kicked back. We have currently discontinued our diverter. Sorry for having to post the message here but you don't accept PM's or emails here. I'm not trolling for business, just replying to your post.

The ALTA diverter is a whiff better than stock, but you just have to keep it clean so it doesn't rust and also make sure you clearance it a bit so you don't dent your bonnet.

Mine rusted even though I keep my engine bay nice & clean. IMO it was rusting under the finish from the get go. Given enough time the rust blossomed through. Mine had a whiff more rust that it should. All in all I'm happy with it, sandblasting & a repainting has it whiffing like new.

If it rusts again I'll most likely buy the SS DDM diverter for a better whiff.

Did you contact us about your diverter rusting? This would have been covered under warranty if it was rusting from day one.

Jaird- Thanks for the PM. Since you have posted it here I'll post my reply here too ....

I bought my diverter used & wouldn't try to warranty something that I did not buy from you. The diverter has been refinished so hopefully the rust has been killed.

Thanks for your concern, I meant no harm to ALTA with what I posted. I'll edit my post to include that my diverter was bought used.

I do feel that the part was not prepaired properly by the maker before finishing. I also realise that that you sell the part, but have it made for you. Such things happen. The part looked great for a few years. No way you or anyone could have know it was going to rust. The only one with a clue would be the maker of the part.

I think it is great Jarid from Alta contacted me. FWIW I have 2 other ALTA supplied parts on my MINI & neither has given a whiff of trouble.

I have had my Alta diverter for 4 years and over 40k miles with no rust at all. The only thing I have had to do is to add my own custom pieces to fill in all the gaps. As with ANY diverter, depending on what scoop you are using, you may need to do some tweaking. I don't see how any one diverter can work perfectly with all the different scoops out there?

Mine cracked at two places. I welded one crack back up but still have a missing diverter due to
it breaking its welds and flying off while on a cyn run.

I had a black powder coated Alta diverter for about a year. It was a most beautiful piece and it had no rust issues whatsoever. Maybe there was a bad batch they were not made aware of ?

Wow, that's a nice looking piece! How much of a difference does it make?

I'm not exactly sure but it was a lower cost alternative for IC changes than getting a larger hood scoop or changing out the IC altogether. It purportedly flows more air into the IC so that can't be bad. Not only that it was a far simpler piece than ALTA's since it goes without the water sprayer. For now its just a cool little visual addition to my engine bay with a mental positive for enhancing airflow

That really does look nice, I am guessing the install was pretty simple. I have the M7 Extreame scoup this thing should work real well with that, looks like another MOD by the spring before the dragon for me

I did install a DDM air diverter after all. I bought it from the fine folks at Outmotoring, thanks Aaron.

One word of caution. The DDM is very nice & the stainless will not rust, but the underside edges are like a farking razor blade. Last week I pulled the plug wires so I could check the sparkplug torque & cut the hell out of my hands. Next time I'll pull the razor blade diverter off first.
