Aftermarket Crank?

And also since pulling the motor, they say I will have to do some machine work on the crank. I'd rather put money into an aftermarket one vice money into repairing the stock one. But seems that this is a very limited market.

Anyone out there have experience with aftermarket cranks for our MINI S's?? Or, know what I can do with the stock one to improve on it while out?
THANKS

The stock crank has a nitride coating I think..

so I don't know how easy it is to work on. Jan at RMW has an aftermarket crank, but it may be for a stroker... Give him a call!

So this means not even lightening the crank then? Anyone here even shaved off some metal to save on rotating mass weight?

Old trick to make an engine rev faster. Most "worked" stock cranks on built motors will have a "Knife Edged" crank. You only shave off about as much rotational mass as adding an lightened crank pulley. But for a motor that is built primarily to squeeze every last bit of oomph out of the engine, by all means knife edging the crank is a cheap option for a higher, faster revving engine.

Check with local machine shops, usually most of the old school machinists build race motors in their spare time and could shed more light on the subject for you.
