R53 Intercooler M7 verses Alta

R53 Intercooler M7 verses Alta

Been seeing these pop up on ebay and other places used, and getting cheaper from some dealers, Has there been any dyno runs to see which is better?

I only have experience with the m7.

I have had good results. It recovers from a good heat soak a lot quicker than the OEM one did. Other than that, don't expect any performance gains.

The new scoop looks mean too.

The stock one recovers faster than the M7 DFIC. The stocker has less mass hense it cools off faster. In turn, it heats up faster also. The M7 does have more mass so it extracts more heat but it holds it longer.

Anyway, the testing that Ive done shows that the stock unit performs exceptionally well

And I have done my own testing, all using a MODIS and IAT sensor.

The m7 with the DFIC Aerogel shield and some DEI Reflect-A-Gold outperforms the OEM. Both around town and testing while at the dragstrip.

Im interested in your results. I have the aerogel heat shield and tested with it. I'm not familiar with the tape or where you placed it. I wonder how much of a difference it makes verses just the aerogel? Any testing that way?

The IAT sensor has so much lag due to the time averaging it's nearly useless for gathering meaningful data for this type product comparison.

Strap the DFIC Aerogel shield to the OEM Intercooler as well as some DEI Reflect-A-Gold. Then compare those results to the set up with your M7.

Anyone know how the Alta TMIC is anchored ? Is is just held on by the botts to the IC ? I see the instructions say to take off all the mounting points, and you can see the 2 "shiny" mounting posts naked in this pic ...
