Drivetrain Seeking tuning flash tool in MA
Hello folks, I am not choosing to leave things hanging, that's just the way they are. There is no fix going on. Upon prodding from car's former owner Jan did ask me what was fuel pressure when warm, I replied as soon as I got home, there 's been no more response since to either of us. MrCooperS, that was also my experience when I tried to reach him by phone/messages, but I haven't tried lately. I have heard from others he really takes the trouble and goes the distance with the job that's in front of him. Possibly, since I purchased his products and services at second hand he may consider himself under no obligation to assist me, and/or he may have decided the problem has nothing to do with him. But really, truly, there's no percentage in this speculation , it's discussing the qualities of a vacuum.
Zippy, thanks for your statements and your continuing active interest, and I will join the club you describe. I have nothing to complain of here, mind you, it's great tapping into this pool.
So- The problem remains, but with the colder weather it's easier to ignore it, since we can warm it up to defrost windows, by which time it behaves itself. You know, everything is relative. I have been trying to move my 03 JCW for some time now, and had just decided to trade it toward a replacement for my Tacoma (perfectly good, sharp truck condemned for frame rust) when it shorted out the ABS module...$1100, I'm told. So my 06 with its prima donna problems just got upstaged.
To keep things real, I still don't have any indication there's a fault in the parts, or in fact even in the tune, and I confess when it's behaving, "in quiet moments I feel strangely drawn towards" it, "but, well, there haven't been any quiet moments." Not with that Borla. (All due respect to Cary Grant).

Any chances the fuel pressure regulator attached to the fuel rail in between the intercooler and the engine - have hardened O rings ? Maybe they just become more pliable as they get warmer providing proper fuel rail pressure ?
It's a shitty part, easy to replace and IMO should be swapped out at 75K miles anywhoo.

Curious about these remote tunes from Mynes or RMW it seems as though they are both good companies.
But they put the cart before the horse on the remote tuning bit.
On topic:
I think that there will be some out of pocket cost here as there was no metion of a warranty from the seller for the parts installed.
Buyer beware!
Second Jan has every right to charge for his services as you are not the original owner of the products he sold and might not have installed in the first place.
I would love to have some work done to my 06 jcw but I am reluctant because of the lack development with the remote tune from these companies.
I live in the Chi-town area and Jan was out about a year ago and I slept on the chance to get a tune. oops!
It does sound like you are going to need a qualified mechanic to fully address this issue as it has not been resolved since you began your post.
I personally find it difficcult to believe that the seller was not aware but I was born suspicious...Good luck

Sandm1430-Ah, a swoop-in lecture. I must look through my posts to see where the problem was identified as Jan being unable to charge for his services. No, wait, he never talked to me long enough to ask to be paid. And apparently the goodwill warranty has expired for former owner and original purchaser of parts and tune, since after promising we would get to the bottom of this he hasn't replied to him either.
But here I go again! I am finding it RIDICULOUS to be airing this soap opera without dialogue. It seems that mentioning Jan sucks all the air out of the subject. I just want to fix my g-dd--n car. On the whole in this matter I fear my own goodwill will never have a reason to see the light of day. But- in case I needed the education- I have learned not to hold my breath.
Eurothrasher, as mentioned in earlier posts I just replaced the f/p regulator (car has 16K).
Sandm, car was started and driven once after tune before I bought it, and exhibited no symptoms. You have bolded 'qualified' mechanic; I agree, but do you mean all those making suggestions here are not?
What does seem to be emerging is, that while I may never be able to identify a fault, culprit or perpetrator if there is one, I can certainly smell my bacon frying.
Cheers to all.

Paul-Not so much. Although I have nothing against dark silver, still have an 03 DS/B JCW just waiting for the proper appreciation...I rather suspect you would have the legs of me however. No, the problem child is the reverse image, Astro Black/Silver.
meacoopa,
I think you are right to seek what you are seeking and I wish you no harm with my comments as I am not choosing sides here.
But it is hard to qualify oneself online as an expert. No offense to those that are. There is a saying that a "truly qualified mechanic is hard to find" as is your delima.
I have been scrwd several times on cars by folks and I now determine qualified as those that actually resolve my concerns.
Even if found they usually charge for their work hence the out of pocket cost.
I trully feel for you on this so do not take my statements the wrong way. It just seems that the only remedy here is time and patience as it does not seem anyone here is able or willing to solve your problem without expense to you.
I wish you the best.

What dead horse?
Hello all, why it's only been seven years of bad luck since I last posted on this topic. That must make my 2006 one of the truly undead. Not for lack of its trying though.
To update somewhat, I never was able to resolve the issue properly. I was just so burned with the situation I drove the car, ***** nilly, for over 100K, when it finally didn't want to go down the road. Once I saved up for major systems overhaul, the head was pulled. Lo and behold, two broken valve springs in the Jesus head. No one will ever convince me that was not the original issue, and I am also strongly inclined to believe that happened at the dyno the day before I bought the car.
So I thought, at long last I have it dealt with.
Ha. Never misunderestimate the unlimited potential of Murphy's Law. Or, actually, regarding this car I think this is Mini's Law.
Less than 10K later I needed another valve job. The machine shop ate it as something they did, but within a few K compression was again low. This time they fingered the injectors. They were tested and one found sticking. This led to larger discussion: With the RMW big-valve ported head, RMW header and Borla exhaust, the motor pulls so much volume that the 380mm injectors are just not big enough, and if one sticks, then all that air is gonna burn that valve. Which it did.
Hindsight is great, but stupid people sure pay a lot for it.
Also the RMW cam had lost its hardening on one of the lobes, so that is probably going byebye soon, joy.
Wonder why the previous owner dropped the dough for the mods but not the injectors to match, and what was the point of the tune without correct injectors, and why did none of the qualified people involved observe or point out the problem with the sum of those parts? "Whatever, I'm selling it tomorrow"? Possibly...so for them,
,
, or
? Well, here it's
,
,
, and
, at least.
So the saga for today is, find recommended 440mm injectors, get a remote tuning tool, find a dyno and arrange with Jan to do a tune.
Okay...
Wish me well?
Hope you're all in health and happily motoring away.
