I'm going to have the airbox completely removed from the car, so does that give me access to any other routine-maintenance points? I remember reading that I can access the shifter linkages. Can I lube them up?

Hmmm, I don't know. You could check your BPV.

 

How?

 

Wipe down your Throttle body plate, when exposed after reomoving the intake tube....they tend to get gummed up after a while...

If you have a 6spd, lubricate your shift linkage underneith the bottom of the OEM intake box....exposed once your OEM box is removed.

Inspect your vacuum lines, and check your thermostat housing for any signs of seepage

 

check to make sure your thermostat gasket isn't leaking. You have to remove the airbox to install a new one.
