m7 intake vs alta intake

Just as the title says.. Any pro's or con's I do see the intake hose does not come with the M7. Now does either one use the intake ram from the front of the car or do they just take air from the cowling?

They both use the stock air inlet to get air on the radiator cowl. It directs air into the bottom of the stock airbox. And both the M7 and Alta use the stock bottom airbox.

You should also consider the DDMworks Intake. We use them on our race car, they were the original ones to make an inclosed airbox.

I am still kicking myself for selling my DDM intake to buy the Alta

There WILL be a whistle with the Alta CAI that many dont mind BUT drives me crazy.

I will eventually get it again.....

I have the Alta Cai and love it. Haven't had any issues and the sound is awesome. The M7 and the DDM from what ive heard are great as well. No matter which CAI you choose it will definitely be a worthwhile upgrade.

Both do pretty much the same thing.

I have Alta's, no complaints here. I've been told M7's is much louder.

Does it come with the hose and air box top?

I'd take it, but Alta is also having a sale. Might be able to get one for less.

Hi there...

We do not use the stock components to direct the air to intake box (that includes the Super-AGS and AGS-R). The Super-AGS is a self contained
air box with the biggest filter element of all the systems (for the MINI) on the market. As for the loudness factor all I can say is that it is well bellow a filter on an elbow system.
The reason for that is the intake flow is controlled and smoothed out with vortex generators and a intake velocity stack.

I thought the only intake you had for the R53 was a box-style like the DDM.

Peter

Yes your M7 intake uses the stock inlet above the radiator on an R53.

Your AGS's your talking about NOT using the stock inlet, Means you must be meaning your R56 intakes.???

correct me if I'm wrong.

"They both use the stock air inlet to get air on the radiator cowl." What the heck does that mean? And why do you think, "It directs air into the bottom of the stock airbox.". Is a problem?

Pretty sure he's referring to the mini ram air scoop right behind the front grill.

from the pictures in their website, the only visual differences i can see between the 2 intakes are that the M7 intake has a longer filter that extends beyond the cowl and has only 3 bolts to access the filter. does the DDM intake also have the velocity stack?

Huh?

He is talking about the air intake from above the radiator. This tube feeds into the intake from the bottom of the box. He is just clarifying for the OP about the lower intake concern.

No reason to get an intake with a box top as the Alta V1 seals against the underhood insulation.

The alta is wider, sticks out further on the passenger side of the air box. They provide a little piece of weather striping thing to seal between their metal top, and the stock bottom plastic piece. It let me fit a larger diameter air filter in there.

M7 and DDM are literally the same minus M7 sticker. I thought OP was asking about R53, if not nevermind.

I went from DDM to ALTA and the ALTA box stays much cooler imo. I could not touch my DDM on some days.

Yes I did not notice the air intake from the radiator comes in from the bottom of the air box.. I think I will go with M7 just because it has larger filter and that means less restrictions. Why doesn't the M7 come with the Elbow intake tube? I have not seen inside the factory tube but I would imagine its far from smooth..

Would it be worth wrapping the box with dynamat hoodliner. It blocks 97% of the heat..

Check the specs. That would probably help keeping intake air cool. Their might be some better stuff then that but would be a good idea for anyone with metal air box..

Well Im not sure about that stuff but a heat blocker cant hurt.

There are lots of guys here on the site that have done testing on things like this that can answer way better than I.
