Short Shifter Mod

I have seen a number of threads on Short Shifters interfering with exhaust systems. Maybe I'm missing something, but about 3 years ago I hacksawed about an inch off my OEM shifter and JB welded a chrome **** on. It's worked fine and no extended shifter below the car. I figured if I didn't like it, I'd buy the short shifter.

The thing you are missing is, a "short shifter" doesn't mean the shaft inside the car. Short shifters change the amount of or distance of throw. So all you did was make the shift lever shorter.

Yep he got what he wanted. A Shorter Shifter.
Get's all the feel of a short shift kit without the benefits.

I guess I did miss something. I remember now, my old TR6 has a shorter throw shifter. Oh well, it does look better and is a tiny bit shorter throw since it is shorter in length. Thanks for strightening me out.

It's all good! You are enjoying your MINI (and modding it) and that's all that matters.

Ugh...

Stock shifter feels horrible, I could not imagine how poor a hacked stock shifter would feel.

Get a B&M.

Wow! The stock shifter in my '03 MCS is about 1000% percent better than the stock 6 spd shifter in my '05 GTO, and if the throw was any shorter I would have to shift with my pinky finger instead of my hand. Haha

I've had a Whalen for both my '03 and '05 MINIs. Then put on a Rogue Engineering SSK and it was ok. Feel was stiffened and throw didn't feel signficiantly altered. The best mod was going to the Craven Adjustable SSK where I can adjust the throw on the fly.

Right now I've got it on the shortest throw which is very notchy and feels wonderful. But in traffic, I just adjust the ring, and set it to the longest throw and I feel like I'm in a big rig!
