Cop out is an idiom meaning to avoid taking responsibility for an action or to avoid fulfilling a duty. How was my response a cop out? We are simply not going to make a one off scoop for the V2.0 Intercooler..The stock one, with modification (and the other aftermarket ones) work great!

However, i want to mention that i did not ask or an one off hood scoop but for a scoop all the alta v2 holders can apply for greater efficiency.so please dont mention that i ask something for myself.

I have personally called Jeff (along time ago) and he told me himself that alta designed this intercooler with a modified hood scoop..that means that alta knows the need of a larger hood scoop...

Added to that if i wanted to apply a water / meth injection kit , why shoold i buy an intercooler...???the oem is a great intercooler and he water / meth injection kit would be a good solution to this application. Opposing to your proposition, i want fresh and clean air for my mini and a larger scoop can provide that

Finally, if i was you i would never say that alta v2 was fine with the oem scoop...the oem scoop for this intercooler is totally unacceptable.... this combination makes the mini to get hot very easily and the loss of power is something someone can feel himeself

ps. my opinion about this intercooler is clearly stated in the beginning of this thread.

 

Modified hood scoop as in the M7 hood scoop or modified as in the stock one cut/trimmed to fit the V2 intercooler? Because modified could mean a variety of things... Alta recommends a M7 extreme hood scoop for better results in their instructions for the Version 2 intercooler.

And the answer is no, Alta is not going to do this so please stop asking. Just get the M7 one if you really want to have a "better" scoop.

Or better yet, just go back to stock and eliminate the problem........

 

Do you not have a dremel to modify your scoop? I have the M7 and the V2 intercooler and the set up is perfect.

There is also the voltage and palo uber scoops... But I agree with Bigshot, Alta wont make a one off or a group buy.

What you could also do though (may be a tad more expensive) is talk to someone about doing a custom fiberglass/carbon fiber scoop to your specifications.

I don't know what the big deal is with moding one of the scoops from M7? Even in alta's instructions for the scoop is says that you WILL have to cut the scoop! I've got the TMIC V2.0 on my R53 and the M7 Ram Hood Scoop which I DID have to cut and make work to get better cooling for the intercooler....wasn't that tough. I even filled it in with "foam-in-a-can" to keep it strong.
Works like a dream! Cold to the touch on the exit side even after 2-3 HARD pulls in my car.
Asking ALTA do custom make something....um....out of the question! No offense to you, but I can assure you that your not the first person to ask them about this. And now that it's not being manufactured anymore I'm 99.99% positive that this will really not happen.
Even looking into the scoop on the M7 DFIC.....the opening is smaller than that of both their Ram and Extreme scoops! Cause the DFIC is made just for that intercooler.

 

aren't the greeks commies now? why cant they all get together and do like a government scoop deal? call it the peoples scoop . or call washington and say they're doing global warming research and get funding . soon as washington digs outta all their snow they can mail um a check .

 

Alta stopped producing the side draft intercooler awhile ago, so it would be pointless for a "merge" between companies for one part that no longer is in production...

Just buy an M7 scoop or another brand and modify it yourself.

 

Not gonna happen and I do understand your fustration. They probably should have put some money into R&D and made up some scoops same time as the V2 Intercooler went onto the market. For whatever reason herbie, that didn't happen.

But for now, you have to look at how businesses work. At least the sucessful ones. It's just not financially feasable for Alta or any other fluid market business to look back and manufacture modding parts for a line of cars which are no longer produced. Esp for an intercooler and style which may be fased out in coming years. W2A Intercoolers, once affordable may end up taking the front row in that market.

If you take a second and think about it, it only makes sense for these businesses to continually look a few years ahead as to what they can make for the 2nd Gen Mini, the new Sport Coupe and the MINI SUV. My 2 cents on this.

How about using all OEM parts?

Ripped off the rubber diverter that was under the subframe one day with some debris. Ordered a new one only to have it give me an idea.

Used that rubber piece and some OEM clips to do the job...

 

I don't see the Alta IC on their site.. where are people getting them?
