sc pulley install questions

i just got an alta 15% pulley. i would like to know all the other parts i should replace while doing the pulley, and the type/brand recommended. also, im still debating on whether or not i should do it myself, i dont want to screw up and i hear its a pain in the butt. i got quoted from a local shop $250.00. is that reasonable? could i find a better deal if i shopped more? im in san diego, ca. thanks =)

$250 is a bit above average. Some really experienced and trusted mechanics can do it for $100. I would look around $150 to $200 first. The pulley isn't a easy install and requires a bit of work if your not mechanically inclined. I would rather get this professionally done to avoid future problems.

I would recommend
-replacing the supercharge belt corresponding to your pulley size.
-Colder Spark Plugs such as Brisk 14LGS or any other one you can get your hands on.

Just installed mine on Thursday - Alta v2 15% - used the rental puller tools they provide, and with two buddies we got it done with NO drama in about 2 hours start to finish. We used the How-To on this site - the ALTA directions are similar, but the pictures in black and white are tougher to identify.

I really can't name a difficult part of this install - we only needed one jack on the engine, even though two were recommended, I didn't have/use a belt tensioner tool - just used a prybar/allen wrench which worked just fine. The rear 16mm bolt holding the tensioner ***'y to the engine was a bit tough - we played see-saw with the engine a few times, between removing the tensioner and getting the belt off (crank pulley is too close to the support/frame rail to get the belt around it, so lowering the engine is necessary.)

I also installed a TSW engine damper at the same time - that was the toughest part as I had no directions, and it took a little time to figure out what bolted where lol Aside from that, watch your clearances in the front (the alternator will come in contact with things in the front, just be careful), watch the coil pack against the coolant expansion tank, and move the air intake tube on the front out of the way as best as possible to get more clearance. Really, anyone handy with a wrench should be fine doing this.

ALTA PULLEY install - big tip - the two allen screws that sandwich the inner pulley hub together are tricky - the innermost screw MUST be put into the recess before fitting the pulley hub flush - otherwise the allen screw head won't clear the supercharger. I did this and had to put the outer screw in, carefully pry against it to pull the hub off slightly. It worked but it would have been nice to know beforehand

Feel free to pick my brain while it's still fresh - happy to encourage anyone to do it themselves! DO IT save the money for other mods!
