Exhausted

Looking for feedback on which exhaust system to put in. Got an R-56 and considering the Invida Q300 or the Quicksilver. I had an 04 MCS with the Alta and liked it okay but wanted something differnt on the 09. The quiksilver tips are huge and the video stream sounded deviant. Haven't heard the Invidia. What do you recommend?

I haven't heard the others, but I now have had the Strat system for about 4 months. I was captivated by the sound from outside the car on their video at their website. The fit and finish and the packaging were impeccable. You don't have to cut anything; it bolts right up to your downpipe, which you can change later if you like. The tips are not rolled, but are very nice and larger than the stock tips.
Be aware that the car WILL be louder inside at certain engine loads. Note that I said loads, not speeds. At cruise, it is quiet but with a lower tone. At first, I thought I had made a mistake, as the car would ring inisde if, say, stepping on the throttle a little more when going up a slight hill. It is not the exhaust, it's the accoustics of the car. Esp with a sunroof, the car is like a drum inside with little insulation. Putting the rear seats up or down did not make much of a difference. I ended up Dynamatting the rear floor of the car and putting damping material in the taillight cavities and across the rear plate panel and some other places, and it made a huge difference.
So, how do I like it? Frankly, I don't think there is any way I would ever take it off. It changes the character of the car so much. It comes the closest to the factory JCW (which is perfect) car's system, exc not as much popping. The tone is PERFECT for the car. It is low, aggressive, and purposeful. Not very loud at idle; beside the car, I can hear the injectors more than the exhaust. But open the throttle any, and it's deep and sweet. Others have compared it to a rally car, and I agree. It makes me want to drive the car all the time, just to hear the motor and run through the gears. It may be my ears, but riding in the passenger side, it doesn't sound as loud as on the driver side. My wife has no problems cruising with me from VA to NC and back in one day in it.
Overall, although I wasn't sure I would be at first, I am really happy with it. Anyone in the N.VA area that wants to hear it, just send me an email and we'll meet up. BTW, I'm 58 and this is my 61st car/truck/motorcycle.
Cheers,
Fig

Don't count out Riss Racing's new exhaust. They've got a great deal on it in the group buy area...

Videos posted too.

I have to recommend Hector at the Exhaust Depot, great quality, sound and the best prices.

Ok Hector, you owe me $20.00, JK, LOL

I will agree with Fig here. The strat is by far one of the best sounding exhausts.... as long as you have the OEM downpipe. I loved the sound. Once I threw a catless in however, it got too loud for me. The strat is basically a 2.75" straightpipe with resonator and tips (no muffler). So for basic driving its fine .. but any sort of acceleration (especially heavy boosted), my setup is just too loud (its in essence a straight pipe turbo back). Granted, it sounds AWESOME. And acceleration on the highway is a blast... But on normal streets, any spirited driving results in trumpeting to the world you are driving too fast, etc. Not for me.

I'm hoping to reduce the decibels with the new RR exhaust since it has a resonator (optional) and muffler... and will likely resell my strat (it will have been on for all of 3 months).

But yes ... OEM downpipe, the strat catback sounds the best by far (in my opinion). Note: I've heard alta turboback, (with and without downpipe) borla catback, (with and without) strat, JCW and couple other randoms. I haven't heard the ED full setup. I was always curious about the milltek and invidia Q300 but never had a chance to hear them in person. I suspect the millltek is VERY mild (based on audi experience with them) and the invidia is much louder (on the order of the borla) based on my subie experience.

Right now, I have the Invidia Q300 piping with Magnaflow muffler, no resonator, and 4" tips. There is NO DRONING at any speed and the big double-walled tips look awesome!! The sound is great and what I thought I was looking for until I heard and saw Riss Racing's system.

Listen to Riss Racing's new exhaust on the below imbedded YouTube video. There's many options to choose from concerning cat/no cat, resonator/no resonator, and their downpipe bolts up direct as well as a choice of black, "burnt", or chrome tips. Excellent workmanship and quality chroming is going to make this my choice.

Of course, YRMV.

Good Luck!!
