Painting polished exhaust tips (Alta) black?

I was thinking about picking up an Alta exhaust for my 2006 MCS. I really wanted the black, but the polished one is so much cheaper. I've heard the double tips have an issues where one discolors faster than the other. Is it possible (and if, so how would one go about) painting the polished tips black in order to hide that discoloration? How would you prep the surface? What type of paint would last?

I know the single oval tip would get around this issues, but I kind of like the look of the double tips.

Sand surface with 400 grit.

Engine enamel primer.

Engine enamel shocking-pink paint.

Done.

They used to be the same price.... do NOT pay extra for the black. save yourself the 80 extra bucks and buy the spray can. I have the stealth exhaust but i bought it back when it was the same price. Mine has chipped off anyways.

The sand, prime and paint is good advice.
I did take the short way with the stock tips just painting with flat black intended for home grills from Lowes. I did it about a year ago and so far so good.
