Exhaust changes and CEL issues

HI All,

I am wanting to change my exhaust abit on my r56 cooper s BUT here in South Africa dealers wont let us change ANYTHING.

I am wanting to try do something "under the radar" so they dont know about it. But i have read that certain coopers give CEL errors etc.

So what is the chance if i tamper with the exhaust that i WILL get CEL's :( i really want to change the exhaust abit(more sound/tune) but cant risk anything...

thank you

its easy not to get a cel many exhausts wont do it...even catbacks that delete one cat...but if your concern is the dealer not knowing good luck.,.,
if you've done anything to your car you will probably have noticed that every mini part has the mini logo on it and when they raise the car up there will likely be a big borla...invidia..ect logo on your new exhaust...and the way your going to be getting different "tone" is by changing the way the pipe looks..even with out a logo they will be able to notice different tips and different sounds...

trust me i work at a dealer when your in 30 of the same car everyday and then all of a sudden you get into one that sounds different you instantly know..its gotten to the point where i can tell if a guy has only a K&N drop in filer just by driving it ten feet...

thanks guys, seems im just going to have to sell the mini and get something that i can modify abit. NOT my first option but when i purchased the car the dealer made me beleive i could do almost anything to the car through them...he didnt clear the fact that its TOO EXPENSIVE and alot of mods would void my motorplan (in SA its ridiculously expensive for a car, you looking at paying more than half your salary for 5 years)

You can do anything you want after the downpipe and it will NEVER cause CELs, just make sure you just get a catback that connects to your downpipe.

Only reason for a CEL would be changing the downpipe, Exhaust Depot has a CEL-FREE downpipe if your interested and catbacks at low prices. I am actually getting rid of my custom catback for his.
