Houston-TX shop needed
Unfortunately the weak economy claimed another victim...the local Mini/BMW shop (BHS), which is terrible news as those guys were top notch.
The dealer is charging $136.50 per hour, which in my opinion is high.
These are the repairs I need done:
- Replace O2 sensor
- Replace oil pan gasket
- Install a high performance cam
Can you recommend a good, affordable shop in town?.
Thanks!,
Hernan

I dont know about Houston, I know a guy here (not at a shop) that has done ALL my installs. Its out of the way but a GOOD deal. Look at my sig. He has done it all.
Goodluck, $136 is crazy.

I agree with you about BHS.
That was a great shop, and they had done work on both my previous MINI and my wife's VW.
I don't know what part of town you're in, but there are a couple of places inside the loop that I've heard good things about. The first is Silvio's Autohouse on Tuam and the second is Key Auto Werks on Holcombe.
I haven't used either one personally yet, but I plan to check both of them out when I need non-warranty work in the future.
Good luck!

Unless you travel north during the winter frequently, all-season tires are not the best choice. A tire that provides grip in dry and wet, plus can handle the heat, would be better suited for central and south Texas. Beyond that, tread life and economics have a role in the decision. Once you establish a budget the choices narrow considerably. I like my Avon Tech M500 tires for overall use; there are better tires for grip (GY Eagle F-1) and turn in (Yok ES100), and great wet (expensive) performers, but at a higher cost and less tread life.
