TSW Damper installed - now I hear a clunk...

Hey guys,
I installed the TSW Damper a couple weeks ago, and have since started hearing a clunk similar to that of a bad motor mount. I plan on heading down to the Dragon, so I'd really like to get this taken care of asap, any suggestions? Everything was tightened to spec, and still appears to be tight... Help?!

Matt

Had that as well!

I changed out my older style TSW damper with their new CF one, and had the "clunk" you described. Put the old one back on and no noise. TSW took the new CF back and checked into it, but could find nothing wrong. I can't help you with what it was, but I have been using their original one now for almost a year since I swapped it back for their newer one and all is quiet.

Gene

P.S. I have a 2006 MCS

I wonder if there's an adjustment that can be made? Maybe things aren't snugged up together inside to damper? hmmmm. I pm'd TSW the other day, but haven't heard back from them yet. I just don't want to waste a bunch of time with MOTD looming in the immediate future.

IMHO...I tried the TSW damper but was unhappy with the noise you're experiencing. TSW was nice enough to refund my purchase after several months. I found the VIP damper to be a much better mod and have had it installed for over 15 months now without any complaints - no noise or noticeable vibration.

So, your return was because of the same noise? A clunk, on and off throttle? I didn't figure that would be part of the NVH everyone talks about. I thought it would be general engine noise and vibration, not a clunk like something was breaking loose! I can't believe I haven't read about anyone else having this issue...

The noise was there regardless(throttle on or off)... and again IMO, as a result of the design. The joints on mine seized and the internal components deteriorated rapidly. This will inevitably increase NVH and noise. I'm much happier with the VIP period!

Then again, by installing the damper you could have elevated the noise associated with bad engine mounts! I guess the only way to isolate the noise would be to remove it. Give TSW a call, I'm sure they'll have an explanation?

I just had a RMW head, cam and header installed on my 05 MCS, and now I have the described clunk, too. I've had the "new" CF TSW damper on for about a year now without any clunk before, and my mechanic believes the noise is being caused by the damper. Is there an adjustment that can be made? More stroke? Perhaps the piston is hitting the stop? Can we get TSW to chime in here with some opinion or suggestions? Thanks ...

take a look under the hood while the engine is running and look for the noise. I quieted some noises by making sure everything was tightened well and nothing was rubbing.

I had a little bit of rattle with my gen1, but the gen2 (CF) is silent.. a little vibration added of course, but no odd noises.
