Since the Shark is seeming to gain some speed, anyone who is working with
the others like EvoTech or Powerchip etc... are these guys working to upgrade
their flash/what are these guys doing to match the Shark's 399 price and
all of the numbers being posted.... A big plus is having the actual product
in hand to re-flash at will. lets get these other makers to step-up and do some
new stuff to keep those who have already gotten with them to stay with them.

Anyone out their working with a set of all of them to see what the numbers are
side/by/side....? from some of the latest response I have seen on the Shark
its fixing several mini issues like yoyoyo / stumble etc....

just wanting to hear from some of the big guns on what going on with future
development on the other ECU products....

I haven't seen any REAL numbers yet for the Shark. We're still waiting for more testing I guess.

What we need is some independent testing, using the same car and dyno for each run.

Agreed, but who is going to do this AND give us the straight poop so we can make the best decision for our particular needs?....

What does it take to get this idea off the ground? ....Funding....

What we need is to fund someone who we can trust to do this for the MINI community. I would be willing to chip in for such funding; for independent testing and trustworthy results....Whoever did this would make out like a bandit if they also were a distributor of the products.

Anyone else tired of drooling over "the best" ECU upgrade? Who would be willing to fund such a product? There has so be many interested parties....

Thoughts?

We need to find an automotive magazine that has a Cooper S and put them up to the challenge. Preferably one that does not get ad dollars from of the participants.

I agree completely Darxar. After paying $350 to have my VW Jetta "chipped" I'm not lovin the high prices that most ECU programmers are trying to get for the MINI.

Anyone know the guys at Eurotuner? They might be up to the task with a few phonecalls made.

I think Randy would be the best person to test out the shark, seeing that he has already had the powerchip and evotech on his car. Even though he is in bed with powerchip, he seems like a straight shooter and I think would be honest about the test results.

I guess I was leaning toward that also, I'm just wanting to get all of the ECU
developers to keep bettering the existing products. I know lots of folks that
had the EvoTech and Powerchip who spent lots of $$$, with the new cheaper
flashes like the Shark comming out I wanted to get those other guys to
kind of "kick it up a notch" and keep upgrading those of us who bought in
early.

Maybe these guys will take a note from the Shark guys and make it easyer
for us to re-flash or even allow us to use other ways of setting up our cars,
like a Valet setting so those teenagers cant get the mini over 15mph.......

Just throwing out a bone to see if all of the developers will step up to the plate,
I am not really expecting people like Randy etc.. to do this, but they work
with these guys, maybe passing along our concerns will modivate them to
do some more R&D... Hope this makes sense

Hey Rocket,
The thing about Randy is that unlike most, he's not in bed with anyone.
He is a straight-shooter who is interested in performance and among
other things, bang for the buck. Powerchip currently has the best bang.
If the "Shark" or something else proves better he will let us know. You
just need to call RW Motorsports and ask.
Regards,
Ric

I think I'm like most of us here, I'm really don't have to have the best, just needs to be some what comparible and at decent price. I don't see myself paying $700 for a ECU upgrade.

Can't speak to the Shark, but I have had both the Evotech and the Powerchip on my Mini and took the time to compare them head to head over consecutive days. I ran them both switching every other day for four days. I found them to be quite different and now have the Powerchip installed on the car. If anyone is interested I would be happy to share what I found in my testing.

Be it known that I am not a racer or autox'er. Unlike Randy, I do not own a shop. I am a pretty typical Mini owner who drives the car for work and play. I like to go fast and I am not above an occasional street race with some ricer on the freeways out here in sunny CA. My goal was to get every ounce of performance I could out of the car for what I considered a reasonable price. I have added the pulley and a Madness intake to the car as well.

With the stuff done to date, this car just flat flys.

Of course we're interested!
I'm on the fence, Powerchip (most likely) or Shark (save some $).
But your comparison of Evotech vrs. Powerchip would be helpful too.

As always RSpeed guys doing quality work. Keep it up, the Atlanta Mini group is
growing and you guys are going to get real busy....

If anyone has yet to see the Huge following these guys have in the "Other"
car market that should let everyone know what these guys stand for.....
The Atlanta Mini group is one lucky bunch having these guys committed to us.

So whats the cost of this Exhaust? make a new thread with some info..

Later..
