mtuning3, glad to hear things are progressing. What year is your car?

Do you know Mariomllr? Looks like your description of mods is very similar to Mariomllr! Are you the same person or a different person?

Are you the first Mini EPL (Tony) is tuning or is there another MCS being tuned? What are the target WHP & WTQ figures you hope to get. Is the tune being done without the gt28rs turbo (coming soon)? What aftermarket intercooler are you running?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm very interested in how this whole thing goes since there is a local shop that does EPL tunes here in the PNW.

Please keep us posted on progress

Threads about tuning shouldn't be started until the tuning is actually DONE.

AMEN!

Also, mtuning3 doesn't seem to be a man of very many words lol...so I'm sure we'll be kept in suspense for the full details for quite a while.

mtuning3: any chance you'll be kind enough to answer these questions?

Aaah , not sure I follow the logic there bud,

once you have an interface to pull the base map off the ECU, you have the...

base map, this is what get's modified, then rewritten using the same tool that you pulled the base map with.

At least that is how I and everyone else that does custom mapping does it. Takes a little while... like moments of time to remap, typically one mods a map, loads it, runs and logs the motor, tweaks the map, iteratively, over the course of several hours.

Of course the Mini must different, one pulls the MAP, hides somewhere frantically coding for ___ weeks, then poof map is done!

I bet this is the old APR "2 weeks." (their s4 supercharger was supposed to come out in "2 weeks" 4 years ago, still not out) I'll believe it when I see it.

I just don't believe they can tune the new R56 in two weeks... nearly everyone who has tried is failing or having an extremely difficult time with it. This isn't some 1994 Honda ECU... it is very modern, and hence, extremely complex. There are a lot of systems to change!

It seems this car is pretty much one large computer, with some mechanical soul. I'd bet this car would be a beast with a good tune, however.

Well, the EURO spec r56s are getting around 250bhp/ 270tq with a tune which is equivalent to 212.5whp/ 232wtq if the 15% drivetrain loss is added. There are people already around that number with evotech/giac/and unichip **OTS** tunes in the states.

I was just referring to the two week timeframe... a lot of people are having trouble, and the PnP was pulling some high numbers. Didn't ALTA say the new one will put the PnP to shame?

For a car that is "new"... 2 weeks is a great time frame. It will take at least that long to work out the driveability of the tune. Look for a post from EPL themselves someday, as this guy is obviously the same guy as Mariomllr and as such, is questionable when it comes to trusting his word.

ALTA has taken much longer than 2 weeks so far and I would guess you wont see anything before summer. The longer it takes the better... That means the more they worked the tune to be both cross car compatible, and solid in all driving conditions.
