Did a search and only came up with 1 post about the Auto Meter Shift Light. Have any of you installed the Shift Light? Part #5340 Pro-Shift (Standard electronic Ignition)
If so where did you tap into the system? In the other post the Mini owner could not get his to work. Dont what to get the shift light if it dosnt work on the Mini.
Thanks for your help.
P.S Im new here and Im not sure if i get a email is someone replys to the post. If you can help me out, please email me at WoodyRVT1000@aol.com

SS, you might want to check-out this thread on MINI2:

It has not been active for a couple weeks, but you might find some of the discussion helpful...

The Shiftlight requires a 12v square wave. The Distributorless Ignition system does not have this. Pilo Racing can provide you with a conversion unit that will allow you to use the tach on your Mini. E-mail us for some more details.

Thanks

wow, what odd timing.

I purchased the same shift light last week. I am taking my car in tuesday to get it dropped, sway barred out, and random things I do not want to do myself. I was going to ask them to put the shift light in, as its a speed shop. Should I JUST hand it to them, or tell them about the 12v thing dan mentions? If its easy, can I do this myself (w/o having to explain anything to the gearheads)? Put in the 12v wave thing, and plug the light into it?!?!

help is appreciated!

Danny

Hey, This part goes inline to the signal line to the coil. Then you run the trigger wire (12v square wave) to your new Tach. Pretty easy to do.

Thanks

I have contacted Autometer. I have confirmed that their products work off of a 12v Square wave signal.

I got the autometer quick shift lite to work in my particular application which might not work for others . I wanted the lite to go on at 6k just to let me know when i was in the high rev range when playing in the canyons. With the motor sound and tire noises etc i found myself rounding a corner seeing a short straight and gong for more only to hit the rev limiter as I wasn't aware i was quite that high in the rev range. In any event i got it to work for that particular range by connecting the signal wire to the black and red wire coming out of the back of the coil pack. The trick is that this doubles the RPM number but by putting the stock 3k " pill " that comes stock with the lite I ended up with the 6k signal i was looking for. Bottom line is you want it to go off at 6k that's a easy deal. Anything else and you need the Pilo item.If you really want a superior shift lite try the Gtech Pro. That is the little console on top of my dash in the picture. It has 4 of the brightest leds I have ever seen. As i get to 6200 one goes off, 6400 / 2 go off , 6600/ 3 go off and 6800 all 4 flash. you CAN'T miss it.You set the red line as you want and it steps itself up to it automatically. If i had bought it first I probably would not have bought the autometer unit. Randy Page Titlemaxmini home site

Randy, I don't see a black and red, when looking at the engine, I see: Black/yellow in driver's side, red in the middle, and blue/black on the passenger's side.

can you advice?
