Ive got a honkin 03 cooper, w/catback, viper intake, powerchip, racing wires..13K miles.. fun to drive, not too loud..

I am installing the Pilo Coilpack ignition upgrade, and considering the throttlebody upgrade from madness... Does anyone have a similar setup and can offer feedback either way.. is it worth cashing in my existing throttlebody for the 5mm increase in flow size?

Also in the longrange financial plan is the header upgrade, not sure if i can go catless, since i plan to keep the mod for everyday driving.. Whats better on a base cooper, Quick silver or mania.. all feedback appreciated either way...

Lets hear what you mini gurus would do to take my car up another knotch..

Thanks

Davo..

From the Mini Mania site I guess the rebored throttlebody is for the Cooper and not the Cooper S only? For the Cooper I do not think that there is enough hard evidence (dyno numbers done in an MC with the TB) that it makes much difference at all. So be careful. At about $450 it is pricey. You might be better off with the M7 Plasma booster.
The basic problem is the lack of IC and SC in the MC. Will the upgraded TB do anything significant in a Normal aspirated MC engine? I don't really know.

Catless is not street legal. A header on a MC is also a questionable mod and expensive. On the MCS expect a small but measured gain in mid to high range RPM 4000-6000 but that is with an intercooler and SC. So far there is little evidence that in an MC the header is a good investment. See if you can find an MC owner that has done the Header upgrade. Also with the header and cat-back exhaust combo there can sometimes be a bad interaction and loss of adequate backpressure and loss of torque-beware.

You did not mention if you have done anything with the suspension and the brakes. These are major places for improvements and finally a short shifter and sport seats/harnesses are very supportive.

I have the Madness throttle body and am very pleased. It was the last thing I got as part of what I consider to be "total free breathing". I guess that would include the CAI, pulley, header (I have the London SS) and the exhaust. I've been advised that they add to each other as a unit.

Obviously, one must pick and choose how many of these mods and in what order to add them, based on certain issues (ie. costs, warranty, added HP, etc.).
