Problem need suggestions.

05 MCS Dinnan Stage 5. I have had this problem for a few years now.
Sometimes I can have up to a half of tank of gas and seems to me when the car gets hot it will stop running sometimes (not all the time). Like its out of gas. I can start it again runs for a second then stops, acts just like it is out of gas. When I put in fuel even just a gallon from a gas can, it will start up and run. Could this be an ethanol problem or maye the fuel pump getting hot and not working?
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Getting a bit with this problem.

Wow, that really sounds like vapor lock but I've never heard of a fuel injected car having that problem. Is there a heat shield missing around the gas tank?

We have an '04 MCS. A couple years ago my wife managed to pierce the gas tank with some road debris. The good new was it didn't go up it flames. The bad new was the damage was covered by the car insurance rather than as a warranty repair ($500 deductible). Anyway, to get to the point, it took forever to get the new tank working correctly. Apparently there are two sides to a MINI gas tank, and there are two fuel pumps -- one to ballance the two sides, and the other to deliver gas to the engine. It sounds like either the ballancing pump or its sensor is intermittent.

technically, there is primary fuel pump on driver (left) side and fuel filter assembly on passenger side. the fuel filter assembly has a jet siphon pump that relies on pressurized fuel to create the venturi effect to draw fuel from the right side back over to the pump side, feeding the pump reservoir. without this siphoning effect you are only using one side or half the tank, which seems to be what you are experiencing. check to see if the pump and filter assemblies are installed correctly and hopefully that will solve your problem.

Thanks for the input. I think I will just order the new fuel pump and let him replace it. That way it should at least cover any issues.

nice call bigshot. i thought the same thing immediately. Anthing above stage 3 is required to have a higher flow fuel pump from Dinan or the software will not load into the vehicle. the MIPP ( dinan programmer ) asks you specifically what the vehicle has installed.

not saying your lying about you mods but....

Come to think about it I never had any problems until they installed Stage 5.
it has been over 2 years ago since that has been done, but I will call Dinan direct and see if they can shed any light on the subject.
