Drivetrain Programming for the CVT.
>>Does anyone know anything about the possibilities of a chip or programming kit for the Cooper with the CVT?
Hello Xanthus!
ECU development is going great guns for the MCS. Shortly we should have a bunch of choices and lots of testing to perform with results to sort out. Competition is fierce.
As a trickle down benefit of all that R&D the ECU chip upgrades for the MC (5 speed or CVT) are to follow once the kinks of the MCS versions are ironed out. Still some months off, it is likely to be worth the wait. In this case it doesn't pay to go first. Lots has already been learned.

Helix13 was asked:
Eric - will the GIAC chip be available for the regular Cooper as well? And what type of gains might be expected?

Yup: The Cooper is next in line. I expect the gains to be between 6 and 10 (REAL, dyno proven, with proper dyno methods) horsepower. Since we haven't tested yet, that's just my guess. I'll keep you posted with propaganda as it becomes available. -Eric

Based on what I have read- if I had a MC with CVT I would be looking at the GIAC for the MC- stay tuned.http://www.helix13.com/html/products/intake.htm
If you cannot wait then Diamond MINI has current ECU upgrades for the cooper (they race two CVTs!) from Superchips.

ECU Tuning
What is ECU tuning? The leading edge technology that Diamond Racing utilizes puts us out in front as industry leaders in the world of performance enhancement tuning for the automotive computer industry. No other process on the market will give you more power for less money!
Here at Diamond Racing we have been able to tap into over fifteen years experince in the world of ECU tuning. Allowing us expertise to tune your vehicle's computer program so that it utilizes a combination of changes that will provide more power and greater driving pleasure.
MINI COOPER
Diamond Racing has brought Superchips UK technology back to the United States. Superchips UK has developed a chip for the New MINI Cooper. This chip gives a good boost to the new MINI Cooper NASP engine. The MINI Cooper showed a gain 8.5 bhp increase over standard. A Cooper "S" chip is well under development at this time, and full information will appear here shortly!
Cheers
