12-20-08 Dyno+Tune

Thought I would share my dyno results from yesterday.

The car is a '05 JCW with Alta silicone intake boot, RMW Camshaft and RMW street header.

This was done on a mustang dyno. Plenty of runs were done to make sure the ecu wasn't learning and undoing things and also made it very nice and drive-able. The peak numbers were shifted down 250 RPM also. The car feels like a larger 4 cylinder now with the cam+header.

Is the delta the Alta and RMW bits over a stock JCW?

Yes, a stock JCW with a tune.

If I am reading correctly, it looks like the Cam and Header plus a retune, added about 14 HP and 17 Ft/Lb Torque. What was the cost of the parts and re-tune?

RMW Camshaft is $400 I believe and the Header is $850. The tune was $200.00.

The Base numbers on this graph are from a previous tune which gave me a nice jump over the base JCW tune.

Yes, 380's are the stock injectors. No, Jan did not tune my car, but MYNES Performance did. I did not get a copy of the baseline.

It is very smooth and feels "stock"... with some more displacement. It does feel like a larger 4 cylinder though.

Nice! Did Mynes charge $200 for a custom tune or a canned flash?

It was a full custom tune. I love the place to be honest - very friendly and knowledgeable. The performance increase was very noticeable from the stock tune (JCW) to theirs originally. This retune after cam+header wasn't as significant, but it did smooth things out. The power feels nice all around. Still not as beefy as my E36, but defiantly much livelier than stock.

Good numbers. Is that with the stock JCW pulley (10.5% reduction)? If not what size?

Yes, everything else is stock besides what is listed. Thank you for the compliment.

I want to install a 15 % reduction pulley, maybe 380 injectors this spring. I would also like to have the Mini tuned. The problem is that I'm from the Milwaukee area and would appreciate a suggestion or two on where a tune would be possible in the area. Currently, my '04 Mini S has a Dinan CAI and exhaust with one of Dinans canned tunes. I have been pleased with the results and they have a dealer nearby.
I really don't want to go with their boost upgrade system which includes an expensive fuel pressure regulator. I read someplace in a forum that the stock pressure regulator delivered just fine. So I need a tuner if someone knows of one in the Milwaukee\Chicago area. But if push comes to shove I will see if the Dinan dealer would do a canned tune on the car after I install the different injectors and pulley.

Be patient until RMW can do remote tune or if you can gather enough cars to sign up and find a Dynapack dynometer to justify flying to your area. If you wish, do the 15% pulley and 380 cc injectors and go to your Mini dealer for the JCW tune ($150 installed) for the time being. Or maybe, there is already one in your area.

Thanks for the advice Ed955S, I did not think the Mini dealer would even consider a JCW tune. I'll ask around the area about a Dynapack dynapack, another possibility. Too bad this area doesn't have a tuner like Jan around, I sure have heard a lot of good about his tunes.

I have '06 JCW with Megan racing header w/o cat. I will install the RMW cam and later RMW header. The car has 188.6 HP I hope I can gain 10 HP and more. BTW why the tuner have decreased 250 RPM?

That's just the rpm where the max power occurred. The red line still goes just as high.
