Polyurethane tranny mount

Has anybody ran the poly tranny mount? How bad does it increase NVH as compared to say a poly engine mount. I am thinking I may throw it in but it just depends on how much of a beeyotch it is to get in. I ran a search but didn't get any how to's. So how hard is it to put in? Any pics would be super sweet.

It is a difficult installation, however, it is said to reduce the vibrations from the other mounts. I installed all of my polyurethane mounts at the same time, so I wouldn't know how much vibration the transmission mount reduces.

I have all of the Ireland Engineering mounts. They add vibration, and I love it. You can gauge and maintain a speed easier based on the amount of vibration and what gear you are in.

So does the poly tranny mount make shifting more surgical?

I put in a set from MiniMadness & it was easy.

I removed them the next day because my interior was vibrating & making a lot of noise.

Later I filled in the gaps on the stock bushings with Hi Temp silicone & it seemed to help control motor movement W/O excessive NVH.

The Trans poly bushing is an easy install. Just support the trans with a jack, remove the airbox and upper trans mount and install it. Sometime some big channel lock pliers help press it into the stock bushing but it's not bad to install.
We install alot of them with dampers to keep the engine from rocking to increase the life of the motor mount.

It should improve shifting feel, but I installed them all at once. Throttle response, shifting feel, and turn in were all improved.

I have just the motor mount.
And as i was telling a guy down at the dyno today I only noticed alot more vibration at idle with the A/C on. Other than that i think its fantastic. The shifting is much nicer and the motor dosent twist up much on the dyno at all.
thats why i see no reason to add a top mount stablizer I suppose its possible but why? if its not moving dont add the trans mount....

I added the top mount stabiliser and cursed it from the day I installed it. The day I removed it again months later I got "my" MINI back..........I'm sure those who do a lot of Solo or track events like these, but I don't see the point or the need for everyday driving - the factory mounts work just fine for me.

Your mileage may vary, see dealer for details..........

i still have mine sitting in the garage b/c i cant get the bastard in!!! the other mounts on my 02 were difficult, especially the mount under the airbox. I had to use a bfh to get that one in. someone from dmc has me beating on my car with a rubber hammer floatin around somewher. lol

p.s.
does heating these things up or freezing them help?

I used a silicon spray lubricant to get the upper mount in, and a rubber mallet to get the transmission mount in.

I didn't think it was that tough of a job. Took me longer to get the airbox & all it's crap off than to slide the trans mounts in. Just have a big pair of pliers or a clamp to help. Maybe even an extra set of hands if you're not as handy. You will get more NVH with the poly bushings, that's just the way they work. If I had to do it again, I'd probably leave the rubber mount in the small end of the lower dogbone stock, and just use poly inserts in the big end, along with the trans. The big end of the lower mount is the worst offender. Shifting is improved with the mounts, but not much more than with a torque damper like the VIP.

I have the lower engine, tranny, and a LOTF damper on my '03. Shifting feels much more direct and the engine bucking when off the gas in 1st gear is really reduced. I didn't notice much more NVH, the only thing I have is a crazy resonance at like 900 rpm, other than that not much different.

Yes just did my tranny mount 2 days ago and honestly it was not hard to get in at all with a little dish soap. I dont have any real vibes in the cabin either.

I guess my set of Ireland Engineering transmission mount bushings were a bad set, because they were both about 2mm too thick, so that was an extra 4mm I was trying to stuff in there.

Picked up a set from Way a few months back and no big issue installing them. Had the airbox out doing a couple of other things and just swaped them out. BIG improvement on the rock-n-roll issue with higher HP/TQ cars. Watch your car on a dyno and go "Holy CRRRRP" that is a lot of movement! (Pun intended)
Noise? Don't notice anything, got way beyond that several mods ago

You guys keep saying your changing the MOUNT when half of you are describing the INSERTS. BIG difference.

we all mean inserts, idk of any real whole mount swaps but these would basically do the same thing as a solid mount, just a little tiny bit of engine movement occurs with the inserts.

idk....i got all those inserts AND a vip damper and my engine rockers just the same.

if anyone can get me the dimensions of the lower tear drop mount id appreciate it as im going to try making something to put in its place and dont feel like taking mine out just for measuring.

id need the measurments from eyelet to eyelet. and thickness of both ends where the bolts go through and the eyelets diameter.

Reviving an old thread because I didn't find any others on these gearbox poly inserts. Yes, the title (mounts) is misleading...

If these are only inserts, which they certainly appear to be, what is being removed or replaced exactly? Here's the language as pulled from the link (I believe from Way) above:

"The bushing replaces the rubber part of the trans mount and slides into the mount to fit perfect and lock the transmisson down."

Thanks.

EDIT/Add: After reading what Way said again, it sounds like the upper bushing is removed?

The stock tranny mount is a rubber bushing with voids sandwiched between two rubber pads. When you install the poly inserts you remove the two rubber pads. The poly inserts consists of 2 pieces that sandwich the rubber bushing. Part of each poly piece fills the voids in the bushing as well as fills the space of the rubber pad you removed.

OSUBeaver - Thanks. Makes perfect sense the way you describe it...

Not sure if you follow college football, but if so, congrats on 7 guys making it to the NFL. Impressive what Riley has done up there. Thanks again.

Sorry, I just read that and it confuses me now. The powerflex poly bushing for the trans fills in the void in the OEM rubber bushing. So it is in addition to the mount on the trans. But there is also a rubber spacer on both sides of the trans mount that get replaced. So it replaces part of the mount and fills in the other part.
I've had great luck with them and think it is a great mod and Cheap too. We also offer it with the TSW damper to furthur secure the motor.
