OBX Exhaust

I installed an OBX exhaust (pics to come) last night on my Pepper White MCS. I'm pleased with the quality and the sound. It's a little tricky to install but the end product looks good. I had one big problem the hangers were not straight and it pushed the system to the back of the car. So after one dead battery (shorted), I had to take the system down and bend backwards the hangers, (only used two of the four mounting points).

For some reason after the first intallation the system move into place and one of the clamps made contact with the battery cable and melted it causing a short that drained my batt and burned a small hole on the cable.

Now it is all fixed, new batt, the cable is isolated again and there is no contact with anything other than the factory exhaust hangers.

No drone at all and at low RPM it's quiet enough for a pleasant cruise. At WOT the sound is awesome and on the loud side.

I took a short video and some pics but it was late last night when I finally finished the second install. I'm at work right now so I will be posting them later today. I'm exited about the mod, now if DDM would ship my CAI, I would be happier! Next up a 15% pulley. I see that you have tons of mods. What kind of HP number are you getting with all that?

Congrats and enjoy it.

I've been running the OBX header (stock CAT) and exhaust for 3 years now. I've had ZERO issues or problems. The system will mellow a bit over time (I found it to be a little raspy at first but that went away). No drone as well.

The exhaust comes in a bunch pieces - on one hand it can drive you crazy getting everything in place; on the hand it allows you to fully adjust and get everything in place (i.e. no rubbing or rattles).

So far I'm liking it! Maybe today I can do clips both from the inside and outside of the car. In the mean time here is crappy clip taking off. You"ll notice that I forgot to turn off the DSC when I shifted into second gear, the second video is a pass by. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHKAymu4KSs

Sweet! Thanks for posting the vids!

I am looking to get a header and I have been researching them and these videos are so helpful.

Seems that all the Header threads here on NAM inevitablely turn into a thread where ONLY ONE brand is discussed. So Frustrating. So thanks for reporting your results on this header

I know that you said installing the exhaust was a pain... could you elaborate? I know that the seller says that you have to re-weld the hangers... is that true? How about the compression fitting that hooks up to the cat? Does the cat have a flange or is it able to take the compression band without modding (cutting)? Thanks man.

I took out the exhaust out and bent the hangers in order to make fall into place. After I did that it went smooth. I only used two of the hangers. One on each side. I think I used the lower ones. I haven't had any problems after the install. Also, the system is not a full cat back. You have to cut the tubing a few feet after the cat. It's no big deal the clamps and pieces all fit properly.

I have no regrets and with the money saved I got me the DDMworks Cold Air Intake. Good luck!

installed it on my 03.

pain to install - it comes in numerous pieces, so getting everything lined up is the pain part. BUT understand because of the numerous pieces, you have lots of adjustability so you can get it just right w/ no rattles, ect.....

I did not have to touch the hangers, they were fine. Perhaps something has changed ? but I hung the mufflers first and the worked from there in both directions.

Its not a FULL or true catback - you reuse the stock straight pipe so there is no involvement w/ the cat connection. Of course you can opt to replace the staright pipe.

I recommend that you

a) do not use the clamps that come w/ it but buy some SS clamps that keep the pipes round.

b) do it on a lift so you can fiddle with getting everything place.

c) have an extra set of hands - as you adjust one piece another piece might move thus the extra hands.

what I found attractive was that I got the header and the exhaust for the same price as most just catbacks systems. Is it the BEST header? NO nor is it the BEST exhaust BUT the combo is better than just a catback (in my opinion). Quality wise both hold their own just fine, its good. Design wise, well today (not back then) there are better design alternatives that give more performance but it comes at 4 times the price.

If you are performance/gains and the rest be damed then its not the system for you.
Anyone seeking to build a level 1 car then its worth looking at.
