10 MPG... Thanks RMW!!!

The last time I ran at the track (Summit Point) with a completely stock JCW, I averaged around 15 MPG. This time (at VIR), with RMW cam and header in place, I averaged only 10 MPG. I also had a very quick car, able to run with anyone in our group! Got many comments on how good my exhaust combo sounded as well.

Oh, also kuddos to JCW for the brakes, which never faded and never lost stopping power, unlike many other cars., including the Mustang GT 550 running with us who ended up smoking his brakes

LOL, I don't know how I could have pushed harder, if I wasn't on the brakes, I was WOT to redline.

Indeed he was...

As I posted in another thread... the only car in our group that was faster than mine was davisflyer's... and then it was close to a toss-up,. just mattered who blew the next apex, him or me.

And I was carrying a few extra hundred pounds, and a slushbox transmission, and a stock head...

Good day for RMW cars at VIR

Oh yeah... and Scott's car DOES sound FANTASTIC with the JCW exhaust and RMW header...

maybe you need r-comps to get the mileage WAY down! trust me, your mileage will not improve. glad to see MINI's enjoying their new-found power on the track. a Z06 driver came up to me a while ago at the track and we started chatting. we got the same mpg but i was faster. enjoy guys.

ahhhhh sooo. last month, with the cam in, the milage did seem worse (9 mpg at lightning)...a shocking way to find out about track fuel prices i had to thank a fellow minian (rmw tuned/header) who ran out of gas on the third run....if he hadn't, i definitely would have on the fourth run! i will be bringing extra fuel next time

i have run out of gas on track (was able to limp to the pits). so have my two best track rat buddies. one gets used to a certain consumption then it gets worse. maybe we are just going faster. nothing worse than passing a 997 p-car then running out of gas.....

I got about 12mpg this past weekend at Streets of Willow, while on the track with the Porsche Owners Club. I was the only MINI out there. The best part was when one of the POC Instructors came up to me and said, "Your MINI seems to accelerate really well. What have you done to it?"

Hey Blimey... great to hear and I'm soooOooo envious that you could run at a "big track" in your convertible and not just the parking lot!

Did you break down and install a four point bar or do they just allow the Minis to run out at VIR?

Out in my neck of the woods, I've been told by the BMW folks that I'd need a four-point bar if I wanted to do anything except autocross.

Of course, that was just one group... and I haven't talked to the folks at the other tracks/etc, but I'm assuming they'll say the same.

I figure I can have the fastest parade Mini in southern california!
That outta be good for something, right?

So nice! The big question is... how forthcoming were you when you answered them?

I should have asked you for a ride when I saw you at Danny's the other week... guess I'll have to wait until the next track day?

Varies by track, AND by organization promoting the event. VIR will allow MINI cabrios without an additional bar, at least on the South Course, with top up, as long as the event promoter does... This was a Phil Wicks event... Our local BMWCCA club and the general Sports Car Club do NOT allow cabrios without a bar...

Carolina Motorsports Park (CMP) allows MINI cabrios, Boxsters, S2000's, etc without an additional bar. The track promoter there (Palmetto) also allows them in their HPDEs... so I'll be making more trips down there...

I recommend you check every track and every promoting organization... if there are any newer tracks with their "own" promoters, they may be more flexible than the car clubs...

Well a good side note is that when you aren't running wide open throttle, I have noticed that with Jan's street header and free flow cat that I pick up 5 MPG on long interstate trips.

At 8mph, I don't think I'll make it in time. Can I go a little faster?

8MPH?

I think Alan meant 8 MPG.?? I hope so anyway. He'll roll down the banking at Texas going 8 MPH! LOL!
12 MPG at the track sounds to high, 6 MPG sounds to low. We would get about 14 MPG in a Miata running a 2 mile track. 2300 pounds, caged, Hoosiers, suspension, etc.... I cant see a 3000+ pound Mini getting 12 MPG at any track.

DUDE?

I'm to old to be referred to as a "Dude", sorry. I'm not mad either, I just like the symbol. Haven't we had this discussion before Blimey? Is that more to your liking?

I'm probably too old to be referred to as "Dude" too... but I hope people keep calling me that when I'm 100.

Nice! I like your sense of humor Blimey. I'm "puttin it in a wall" once I lose my mind! Shouldn't be much longer, I'm at least halfway there! 20 years tops! I just want to live long enough to embarrass my kids. Maybe my grand kids too! LOL! Later! Keep Motorin'!

Lemme know when you're ready to put it in the wall and I'll come and shoot video. To capture it for posterity, you know.

Just kidding.
