Promini Intake... whats the skinny?

I did a search and only came up with alot of them for sale. I was hoping people with this intake could chime in on its performance. I currently have a K&N drop in filter and thats it for the intake system. Would it be an upgrade from that?

I notice the back side of the Promini is open to the engine bay, Would making swiss cheese out of the rear pannel help this intakes performance?

Just so you understand my line of questioning about this intake and not more known ones such as Alta or M7 is this. Picked one up on ebay for a small price.

Supporting mods (lach there of) are in my sig.

I had one on my '02 S. It is not a bad intake. If you make the swiss cheese mod, the supercharger whine is loud. (I liked it) If you want to do the mod PM me first.

I agree. Any intake that also draws air from the cowl vent will increase the supercharger "high-pitched jet engine whine" sound at full or near-full throttle. In my opinion, this is an amazing sound, and I wanted more of it.

You'll also hear just some general "sucking" sounds as the air whooshes into the filter via the cowl vent. It is especially prevalent with your window down. This sound is not quite as desireable/sexy sounding, but it comes with this mod, so you have to take the good sounds with the bad.

That is what happens when you open up holes in the cowl.

You got it brother! I just put that K&N pannel filter in today because I was impressed by your setup. Then I found out I won the auction for the Promini intake. So if I dont like one I have the other .

Ill get to those injectors for ya soon.

I've had the Promini CAI mated with an Alta hose and cut out cowl partition on for about a year and a half. Worked great, sounded good and I was overall pleased with it. I smoothed out the toothpaste welds and painted it black for more of a stealthy look.
I just replaced it a few weeks ago with a full Alta system (CAI,box top, hose) because I thought it might be better and I got a super deal on it. Honestly, I can't tell much difference. Maybe a bit louder.

I have the Ultrik CAI from Mini-mania... Instead of taking a hole saw to that firewall. I took a piece of tin and put between the firewall and the brake lines and used a Dremel tool and cut out the back section. Didn't have to remove the CAI box or the firewall and just shop vacced the remains out. I love the s/c whine

Welp I scored a DDM Works air box on Ebay for a steal so I guess I will be able to compare the two

Should work great with the cowl mod!

Go with a DDMworks, Never had a problem with them, and they make good power.

Which intake accents and increases the supercharger whine? It's like a friggin drug I need MOOOOOOAARRR - I drove a car with a 15% pulley and a Promini intake and it was LOUD. I liked that, but if the ALTA or DDM is louder...

I have to say almost all the intakes make the supercharger whine more noticable. The Alta and the DDM sound pretty much the same. The reason you can hear it so much more is it obviously flows alot more, but you also remove the plastice divider that seperates the cowl from the intake. That allows more engine noise into the cabin. So do that and you'll be happy. If someone wants it to be quieter they can just leave that divider in. That's what I did for my GF, she likes the sound just not all the time, so leaving the divider in is perfect for her.

Ya I took that thing out about 4 days after I bought the car It definitely helps. So I guess keep my eyes peeled for an intake and whichever comes up I go with.
