NM Engineering Intake!!!

Hey Guys! Ok, Ive been through a handful of intakes, and I finally found one Im satisfied with. I got this from Nick @ NAMOTORSPORTS

Info can be found here
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=155863

Ok now onto the intake!!

Installation.
Well I found the intake on my doorstep when I got home around 10:30. Just like a little kid on Christmas Day, I tore the Heck out of the box I planned on taking a shower, but I just couldn't wait til the next day SO! I popped open the hood and went to work.

The intake comes with a metal inlet hose, a little "shroud" thing, silicone couplings, and all the necessary hardware. Long story short, since its the only system that replaces the whole intake system, the install wasn't a small juggling act. Fit and finish was just awesome! Ive come from honda's, nissans, etc. the "import crowd" as you might say; I have been used to intakes and such to fit spot on.... this intake brings me back to those days!! The aluminum pipe comes with bulged ends so that clamping the silicone pieces are super easy! My BIGGGGGESST concern was with the silicone that connects into the turbo. A few people have had trouble with their inlet hoses mating with their turbo, myself included, the silicone piece on the NM engineering intake fits with no trouble

PLUS it fits my strut bar!

INSTALL- i give it a 10/10
-------
Sound

As with any open filter intake, there will be more noise, especially the factory bypass valve. After this install, the sound was very ''stock'' and unnoticeable until after 3,000RPMs. Instead of a gurgle sort of sound, it is more of a sweeping crisp sound. Maybe the aluminum muffles and changes the sound...not really sure, but I LIKE IT!!!!! Also, just as the install was super easy, there is no "unknown" vibrating sounds coming from under the hood. After having quite a few intakes, I like the sounds of this one the best!

Sound- I give it a 9/10... It doesn't LOSE a point, it just isnt that ''perfect'' sound I dream of, but then again, a 9 is super high
---
Power

Anything is better than that factory box!!!!! with that said, the NM Engineering induction kit is just crazy. Anyone who has upgraded to a DDM, KN, M7, and/or any others out there have noticed better throttle response, a nice sound, and even a little performance gain. To top it off, this kit comes comeplete with the turbo inlet in mandrel bent aluminum! Sweet! This defineately gives it that extra OOOmmmpphh when your WOT. I haven't dyno'd, I wish I did, but there is defineately more power available with this kit.

For an intake, 9.5/10
------
BONUSES

My car currently, as far as performance, has

Invidia catback
Alta Boost Tubes
NM Engineering Intake

I DEFINATELY felt an increase with this intake over my previous intakes. Anyone who gets this intake WILL be pleased. Even if it doesnt make lots of power, the fit and finish is perfect. But back to my point....I def. see other mods such as an exhaust and boost tubes improving the efficiency of this intake. I mean if your sucking in more air, you got to push it out somehow!!!!
------
Gas mileage

The myth that it goes ''up and down" is defineately true. I don't Put-Put my car, but I use cruise control quite a bit.

After a complete fill my ODO read 531 Miles to go!
Sweeeeet. I bet the cold weather plays a big part but hey, this intake will help you take advantage of that cold air!!

Ultra Hot Air Intake

I would put the JCW Box with a ITG Filter up against this super hot air intake any day.

NM Engineering had considered making a cold air intake for this car, however, there is just no room to get the filter behind the bumper and no room to put the plumbing.

i wish this were possible but from the looks of things... there just isnt enough space in the engine area.

Ive gone the DIY CAI route and came back to stock... I am also hoping that someone defies logic and is able to find a proper air air source for a true CAI.

Working on it.

My primary concern is the location of the MAF, location of the opening and filter is easy.

A little careful thought, some work, a lot of fabbing. Soon.

Don't want to be negative, but even if it's 'honest', i'd like to see a dyno chart of a stock MINI with this thing on.

If it makes good power like that, i'll definitely fork over 400 bucks. If not, maybe Forge or DDMworks.

No offense, but i'd like to see some results!
