After 2+ months of logging data without a P2188, I finally captured the event with my OBDLink MX. Here is the freeze frame data:

-P2188: System Too Rich at Idle (Bank 1) (Powertrain, Generic)
-Fuel system status: Fuel system 1: Closed loop (1)
-Fuel system status: Fuel system 2: NA
-Calculated engine load: 23.9 %
-Engine Coolant Temperature: 176 °F
-Short Term Fuel Trim - Bank 1: -0.8 %
-Long Term Fuel Trim - Bank 1: 6.3 %
-Intake Manifold Absolute Pressure: 14.8 inHg
-Engine RPM: 708 RPM
-Vehicle Speed Sensor: 0 mph
-Ignition Timing Advance for #1 Cylinder: 3.0
-Intake Air Temperature: 64 °F
-Air Flow Rate from Mass Flow Sensor: 0.5 lb/min
-Absolute Throttle Position: 14.9 %
-Time Since Engine Start: 421 s
-Fuel Rail Pressure: 1041.4 PSI
-Commanded Evaporative Purge: 0.0 %
-Fuel Level Input: 98.0 %
-Barometric Pressure: 29.2 inHg
-Control module voltage: 14.07 V
-Absolute Load Value: 34.9 %
-Fuel/Air Commanded Equivalence Ratio: 1.000
-Relative Throttle Position: 4.3 %
-Ambient Air Temperature: 62 °F
-Absolute Throttle Position B: 15.3 %
-Accelerator Pedal Position D: 14.5 %
-Accelerator Pedal Position E: 7.1 %
-Commanded Throttle Actuator Control: 5.9 %
-Long Term Secondary O2 Sensor Fuel Trim - Bank 1: 0.0 %

The CEL occurred after 30-45 minutes of highway driving when I came to a stop at an exit ramp. The car continued to run fine the rest of the day and I cleared the code and it hasn't come back after another 50+ miles of driving. Anything in that data look suspicious?

Just wanted to update anyone with an Atla intake. After having the intake on for a while I eventually got the dreaded P2188. I would simply clear it and it would come back every 2-300 miles. As time went on it would come on within 50 miles or less since clearing the code. I then cleaned the MAF but unfortunately no differece. Several weeks ago, when performing my a carbon cleaning, I noticed there was an oily spot on the underside of the foam filter. I soaked the filter in water and Dawn (dishwashing soap) for a bit and removed all dirt and oil, which really wasn't visible to the eye. I'm happy to report that since then I haven't gotten the P2188, it's been approximately 1k miles, always in Sport mode and driven pretty hard. There is a possibility that the cleaning of my intake valves and TB have attributed to this but I honestly believe the oily foam filter was the culprit.

Did you see any signs of the oil in the intake or on the MAF? Not to burst your bubble but I had a similar experience with oil on the filter so I replaced it with an AEF dry filter and still randomly get the code.

Yes, there was minor presence of oil and dust in both, the intake and the MAF. The TB was pretty much identical as far as dirt and oil. Again, nothing significant but enough where your finger tips would turn black if you ran your finder across the interior housing of all the components.

Interesting, I really hope it fixes the issue for you. I know how frustrating this random code can be. Were you experiencing any performance or fuel mileage impacts when you were getting it?

Not really but my plugs, which I replaced at the same time, showed signs that I was indeed running rich

If I were you I would refrain from using anti-seize compound, I quit using it because every time I go to check my plugs I noticed the anti-seize compound dips onto the piston crowns and had been there for awhile, it can even drip onto the plugs electrode and cause ignition problems. When I for the first time replaced my original factory plugs I noticed they were cleaner after 50,000 miles than after replacing them 12,000 miles later using anti-seize compound!

Usually that code comes when fuel trim is significantly in the negative but your ltft and stft are fine. looks like your fuel pressure is kind of low but everything else looks similar to the data from my 09 mcs when it was running properly. Did you ever end up finding out what it was?

I'm stuck in limp mode with this damn code but when I clear it everything runs fine for a day or so then my fuel trims build back to the negative and it starts all over again.

Issue was a failing fuel injector on #2 cylinder. Injector failed in open position about 3 months after this post. Fuel flooded #2, mixed with oil and caused 85% loss of compression. Game over, engine dead.

Wow im really sorry to hear that especially considering your sensors looked ok. I'll definiteley have to check my fuel injectors!
Thanks!

Thanks, it really sucked at the time, but I'm glad I was able to find a used CMS.

I can't remember the details but checking the injector wasn't a simple task so I highly recommend finding a mechanic that specializes in MINIs/BMWs.
