Drivetrain Make mini's engine bigger!!!
OK im not much of a mechanic but bottom line everyone seems to want a faster mini. derrr... me too!! but bottom line is that the engine is a 1.6 its having every ounce of power squeezed out of it. i was wondering why no-one or i have not heard of it but would love to! .. why no one has tried to bore the engine out to a 2.0L or a 1.8 surley this would help mini be faster? and prob cheaper for me as i have a cooper (non-S) as insurance at 20 in uk i crazy! also sending the drive to the rear wheels would be a nice boost for mini's handling.
well let me know what you think and if its possible! send me a message if u can as well (just paste what u write in here) haha

There are stroker kits out to push the engine to 2 litre, but it's spendy and would require a complete tear down. I suspect the new Pugeut/BMW engine coming in the next MINI will have a larger bump in displacement, but not much. Most likely only a 1.8-2.2 litre, but I'm guessing turbo'd this time for the S.
As for rear wheel drive...unless you make the car wider or longer it won't be possible to put an appropriate diff back there.
Not to mention that the original Mini was WrongWheelDrive...uhem...FWD.

My eyes have been violated by the Barbie M Roadster!!!!!!!!!
Heh
Anyways, if you bored it out some... you would weaken the metal, there would be more surface in there to heat up , thinner, and more apt to crack or worse.
It's really really weird... why does everyone who buys a MINI all of a sudden turn into a potbellied racecar driver...
That's No Helmet! That's His Combover!
Slow down.

Yes this is the correct answer if you'd like the bigger engine.
However there are problems with this option.
It's costly to do it to your existing engine- labor intensive. Sure it increases power but it hurts gas mileage some. Would it be worth it to gain power but have a car that gets 20 mpg? You choose.
The upgrade stresses the engine and may make it less reliable in the long run. So do you want the car to last many years or not.
Also the upgrade will void your engine warranty which costs you more out of pocket if there is a problem.
If the design is good hopefully you won't get other bad side effects like more noise and vibration, not too much more weight and hopefully it won't be too limited by your other stock parts like the throttlebody, ECU, supercharger or intercooler, radiator system or exhaust system.
You have to think about how well will the upgraded larger engine work with all other systems and what is the limit in the overall design.

Czone...if you want a faster MINI, try buying an "S". You've got 200+ hp potential then, in the same package. Better performance, same great handling, same great looks.
BTW.....one of the reasons the MINI handles as well as it does is because it's FWD.
I think a rear drive version has already been done in one of the race cars ( BMW M5 powered).

the gearbox is also a major concern.
rumor has it that the 6-speed getrag in the mcs is only capable 250hp.
so any good stroker kit should come with an appropriate gearbox because
i sure as hell want more than 250hp if i'm stroking my sh@#$%t out.
for the extra $, on the other hand, i would rather trader up for an E46 M3.

I bet you can buy a Crate M3 and it would be covered by insurance....
drop that in... it would cost nearly the price of a mini to "fit" it in there....
So MINI $22K
M3 Crate Engine... $????
"Fitting" it in a MINI $???
A MILLION DOLLARS
Hahahahahahaha

There are some problems with any international transaction. One is the handling of the core and the other is the high cost of shipping/insurance.
Lets assume that the owner needs to return some core parts to the vendor. In the best world the to be upgraded parts are bought by the vendor and modified to specs. These parts are then purchased by the buyer in a far away place and reliable shipping is secured to get the newly reworked parts to the buyer who then has 14 days or so to make the swap to upgrade the engine and then send the core parts back to the vendor in the US. You need to pay probably over $1 per pound of the parts and shipping materials/crate plus insurance.
Just think the JCW kits being made in the UK and get over to us with core parts to return. Same sort of thing. Sometimes the costs can be ridiculous.
It's not impossible just really expensive and it is risky for both buyer and seller. Hope nothing goes wrong. It can be a realy hassle shipping outside the US.
I got a London Stainless quicksilver exhaust and I live in Hawaii so that is pretty far away. I also paid triple the shipping cost to get it.

wow i was not expecting so many replies..... im just asking about the bigger engine cause well come on you all know MINI is SEX!
i dont want another car well i do but i want my mini too and a S is very expensive for insurance my cooper (03) reg at 17,000 POUNDS cost nearly 2,000 POUNDS to insure for 1 year (i am 20) i think thats like $3500 or so an S would be prob double that!
thats why i ask about moding my current mini also cause i just love it SO haha
i dont really care about the warrenty i know i should but hey.. be nice to be in my cooper and have a "t" on the back for turbo sure it'd confuse allot of the S drivers specially when they hear the dump valve "whoosh" hehe
