Speaking of tuning options....

I made a post about the Unichip and what people thought about it.

Since we're discussing tuning options, what about the GIAC? As of May 21st, there were only 3 people that had the GIAC tune.

Since then, has anyone else had their ecm tuned and if so, what are the results and more importantly, are you happy with it?

Helix started the post in Feb. By June, I still haven't heard of anyone having it installed, if it's working correctly and how well it works.

Anyone try it yet?

Thanks,

Mark

Does that mean no one has this on their car? No one tried it? Is it still on the market?

For all the rants and raves I read about GIAC on audis, etc, I'm not hearing a whole lot about it on Mini's especially since it was originally posted in Feb. it was available.

Here we are 6 months later and not one comment/thought about the new GIAC for the Mini.

Anyone?

Mark

I'll keep you posted on GIAC. I found a local dealer today that does it.

The GIAC tune is a must have for the R56. It develops a dyno proven 14whp and 20lb ft of torque on 91 octane.

Proven results from the best in the industry. GIAC has a track record of powerful ecu tunes that have no adverse effects on your car.

More power with no drawbacks, what more could you ask for?

If you're interested in ordering the GIAC Flash for the R56 you can send us your ecu, we will flash it and send it right back to you within 24 hours.

If anyone has any questions concerning the GIAC tune for the R56, please feel free to ask here or call us at 1-877-HELIX13.

What about CELs? The people that have the GIAC tune are getting no CELs? Does this tune need to be modified as I add "power adders" to my mini?

This are the 3 ways that I know and they are in order of favorites.

1. Dimsport

2. Giac

3. Alta/UNichip

GIAC wouldn't happen to be able to make a JCW S even better ??
Just out of curiosity ... My S is completely stupidly fast, I LOVE it ... But seeing as how ecu tuning does SO much ... I wondered if some tune on TOp of the JCW would be even better ....
Though, the jcw is really good tune, and completely safe. not sure about warranties and other ecus... hmmm...

Helix what's the scoop ?

what about ECU reflashing and dealer warranty work?....as an Audi (TT) guy, there is a 'workaround' on some flash companies, but not all of them allow it. Some dealers would reflash your ECU to stock if something didn't match or plain deny your warranty.

No CELs...we flash your DME and you're off to the races
Depending on what kind of power adders you'll be going with, a different tune may or may definitely be needed.

No dyno comparisons yet against the JCWs as our dyno is still inaccessible because we're still in the early stages of moving to our newer shop.

If for some reason the dealer were to flash your car back to stock. We'll reflash it one time for a small fee ($75) to cover the labor on our end instead of paying the full price again

Does anyone know exactly what ECU the R56 uses?

Is it the Bosch MED17?

It seems like the flashes could use a map that is much more agressive. While the gain is nice there is so much more in there waiting to be tapped.

No disrespect but "must have".... I was wondering "anyone have"

Is there anyone that has a GIAC tune on their R56??? I've been waiting for months and all of a sudden, it's a "must have".

Would really like to know....

No such thing as "on top" of a JCW tune. If GIAC was to write a tune, it would rewrite on top of what was already there and thus replacing it.

It's not like you get a JCW tune and then GIAC makes it better.... If their tune is better, they will have replaced all the tables to make it better.

The most agressive map is not always the best. I'd pick the GIAC over a UniChip peaking 21 lbs of boost anyday.

GIAC has a long history of tuning ECU's and I'm sure they know what they are doing. If they wanted to tap into a more agressive map they could have...but they chose not to for a reason I'm guessing. I'm sure they have a lot less issues due to that choice as well! But then again, no one here seems to even have GIAC yet...

When I googled 'Bosch MED17' I got an interesting announcement from REVO Technik (who tune VW ECU's). It seems the latest generation VW 1.4 TSi and 1.8 TFSi engines use the same ECU for their direct injection engines and they have mastered it.

http://www.revotechnik.com/aboutRevo..._engines.aspx/

Please note they are programming through OBD port! There is promise yet!

I was one of the original adopters (first 10) who got the unichip. I've been through 3 generations of harnesses. However, my gen 3 harness has been rock solid (and chip) - ever since I got rid of my oil based air filter and had my instake sensors (maf and two others) cleaned, I haven't had a single cel.
That was over a month ago. I now believe the unichip to be stable - I had another cause for my cels. I have modest mods and pulled 237 lbs torque/203hp at the wheels at sea level uncorreced.. even owing to dyno differences - I'm a good bit stronger with the unichip and Alta's mapping than I'd be with the dynoed giac.

I've cautioned against the unichip before but now believe it stable. I had other causes that have been fixed for the cels I was getting.

Spoke to a rep from Revo. They advised me the R56 has come up in several marketing meetings, however they don't see much interest in the market. Would be nice if someone in GA can persuade them into making something for our cars.

Hi

This morning I received an e-mail from Revotechnik.

Thank you for your e-mail. We do plan on moving into the BMW and Mini markets but only after we have fully covered the VW & Audi applications with the MED17 type ECUs first
