ddmworks RIS vs turbo heat?

Hey whats up guys. I just had a quick question about the DDMworks Race Intake System with the Ram Air Scoop...

As I have read around the forum, I have noticed that people are having overheating problems with their turbos...if I were to add the DDMworks RIS, would it interfere with the turbo because the heat would have nowhere to escape from? for example, the new models have half of the scoop open for heat from the turbo to dissipate, whereas the RIS will lead straight to the intake...what do you guys think?

thanks in advance guys!

I've often wondered this...I would think heat would be an issue with the race version, but I really don't know.

All I know is that I have the Street version and love it. I have the scoop open so that helps with heat issues and gives the intake air.

Dave does EXTENSIVE testing. He's one of few vendors who really does. Just hit him up. I bet he could tell you temp figures, etc. The R56 they tested this on had in on for sometime before it was released. He actually makes this stuff him self before production. Rather than modifying someone else products.

DDM has some of the best stuff out there.

Sounds good. I've heard good things about DDM so I'll probably just talk to Dave about it for further information but in the meantime any other info/comments are welcome!

I ordered this kit 2 days ago and had Alice in the shop to reprogram my window this morning. I was talking to the head mechanic and asked about it.

He said a few things
1) the setup won't mess with my warranty in any way
2) though mini never officially acknowledged the overheating problem, and therefor won't say the additional holes are for that, he has not seen any difference in heat dissipation when someone used the scoop and it was isolated from the rest of the engine compartment.
3) he has not seen the melting scoop issue on the 08's

I also asked about the air diverters I was seeing for better airflow to the intercooler. That seemed like you'd be screwing with the air to the radiator at that point and he agreed.

He suggested a bigger/better intercooler, if anything, but not messing with the airflow up there. relating that they had a service advisory to warn people about having no more than 1 badge on their grill because of how much it affected airflow.

So, all second hand, but still, seems like reasonable advice.

This is really weird, I was just about to make a new thread with the exact same question!
I am after ordering a DDM RIS but was worried about 2 things
1) the head not being able to escape through the bonnet vent - is that bad?
and
2) because the hot air from the turbo cant escape, it will rise up and cook the underside of the RIS - surely? So I assume DDM thought of that in the design and made it heatproof? Or is that still potentially an issue?
There is also the issue that I am UK based and therefore dont have a maf, so does anyone know if there is an adaptor to bridge the gap?
Thanks!

For our friends outside the States with out MAF's you can order the DDM system to work without the MAF, just let me know when you order.

HEAT The DDM RAM does help protect the hood and outside scoop from heat in two ways. One, the DDM system has vents that allow heat to exit the hood when stopped/parked. Two it creates an air pocket between the turbo and hood that protects the hood. http://www.autoxcooper.com/ddm_turbocooper.html

I've had the DDM Works RIS on my Mini since early May of this year and absolutely NO heat issues. I recommend it highly!
