BORLA RACE question?!?

Hi,

I have had my Borla "Race" exhaust for more then a year now.....Recently I have acquired a new rattle. Its LOUD at idle and at about 1100 rpms (exactly) I was wondering if anyone else had an issue with their resonator? This IS where the sound is coming from. If you put pressure on the resonator the sound will stop. (its a high pitch rattle, like putting some BB's into a tin can and shanking at a low speed)

This is a new sound that started after some work was done (I know the work was solid and had nothing to do with it, so please skip that)

What I, wanted to know is if anyone had a borla race exhaust and had the resonator go bad?

Some how I dont think im the first, but it would be kind of cool if I were......

So yeah. I dont want theory, I dont want what you think is happening, and I dont want how you "feel" about it. I already know what is wrong, I would just like to know if anyone else has had the same issue or similar. So if you have never had a Borla Race exhaust, keep your OPINION to yourself, please.

My Borla Sport/Race resonator started making noise at about 35,000-40,000 miles. Also, one of the mufflers started to crack at a hanger. The complete cat-back system was replaced under warranty but I had to pay shipping.

I had a rattle that sounded similar, it ended up being the heat sheild at the rear of the car rattling against another piece of headshield. Check heat shield in the area the work was done.

I also had some cracking after the cat that I had welded before my tune......guess I should have contacted them earlier!

I would get under it and check to see if you can make it rattle without the car running. If not warranty time.

Borla does have that million mile warranty. Do you have to fill something out to get that? I can't remember if I did and I have lost all information on it. My Borla sport has been in since the car was pretty much new.

Check the mid pipe exhuast mount. They attach to the plate with a tab and a screw, and sometimes the tab deforms/ slot gets bigger, and the mount vibrates. I had an issue like this and the exhaust would vibrate quite badly at idle. Was difficult to find too. Ended up drilling the plate and the tab and riviting the two together.

Did you register your exhaust at purchase? They might screw you because you welded it.

yeah I don't think I did. I guess I might be taking out the resonator and just going strait pipe. I didn't "buy" my exhaust, I did a website redesign for it, and I don't remember if they ever even gave me the warranty card.

I had to work my warrany exchange through the distributor (Mini Madness in my case) from whom I purchased the exhaust. Mini Madness had to work with Borla to get a replacement. Borla sent Mini Madness a replacement, then Mini Madness sent the replacement to me. I had to pay shipping from Mini Madness to me. I also had to return the defective system to Borla. Borla would not work directly with me, only through the distributor. It was a bit of a pain but at least got replaced for the shipping costs.
