Drivetrain 380 injectors for tune?
380 injectors for tune?
I have a set of jcw 380cc injectors in my hand, and I don't know whether or not to install them. I am getting a tune from jan this coming saturday. I have a 15% helix pulley, alta cat-back, K&N cai, and colder denso iridium spark plugs. Do you think its a good idea to put the injectors on? Would I get better numbers?
Many have said this before...the 380's are not absolutely needed. However, peak hp in the MCS is around 6900rpm and the power drops off sharply at 7000rpm. In this range the stock injectors are flowing near their max duty and you risk leaning out if operated in this range for an extended period. That would be VERY BAD.
On the street this isn't a big deal, assuming you don't spend a lot of time north of 6500rpm. On the track, however, you run the gears out (eg. at the end of a straight) and run much higher rpms. Larger injectors allow you to safely raise the redline and extend the usable rpm range up to 7300. Jan described it best when he said injectors are "cheap insurance."
So with your mods it comes down to where/how you drive. Beyond those mods bigger injectors are essential.

I have GIAC ecu right now, so my redline was raised to 7200, and I do tend to run the car up in the higher rpm range so it sounds like this is good insurance, also in the future I am planning to do some more mods.
