K&N Intake: Good, bad, supposed to look like this?

I found this on a car I may be buying. Is this installed correctly? The front pipe, which appears to intake outside air, doesn't seem to be attached to anything, which seems a bit goofy to me.

Thanks!

It's on there right. Not my first choice in intakes by any means...somewhere right below stock

It is correct.
It turns the whole side of the engine compartment into the "air box"

It is the ONLY aftermarket system that I know of that is CARB approved and comes WITH the CARB / DOT sticker (anything else is not allowed if you read the smog rules)

With my "forced air mod" and the "swiss cheese" pre fire wall mod it is my FIRST choice.

Do you have any details (links?) on what you've done to make it worthwhile?

Those of you who don't like it, it's not exactly a deal-breaker if I were to buy the car though eh

Yeah ./....
I opend up the side of the grill, built a duct for air, have a heat shield, and removed most of the pre firewall.

I'm on COR BLIMY's page. I have the K&N with similar other mods. Was my very first mod. I think the most important companion to the K&N is the "swiss cheesed" bulkhead. It is a $0 improvement (if the previous owner didn't already do it). I can't tell from the photo.
