C02 for cooling

I am looking at a little project next to keep the IAT's down.

I was thinking of a Nitrous or Co2 intercooler sprayer but as Nitrous is illegal down under it rules it out (maybe ).

I know there are issues with Co2 entering the engine and if you do not seal the engine bay from the intake you will loose hp and I would imagine not to good for the engine - so that would rule out Co2 as an intercooler sprayer.

Has anyone used the Cryo2 air intake system?http://www.alldayperformance.com.au/prod906.htm

What about they Cryo2 fuel bar?

How much damage could CO2 do to a motor? Anyone seen the Smash Lab where they try to stall a running car with a fire extinguisher? They doused the front end and it had little to no effect. I couldn't see a small amount doing any damage as a spray bar with the amount they pumped into the front of that car. Just my $.02, though.

Im positive this was covered in another thread.
if you want to do it. plug all holes from the engine bay and keep your intakes seperate.

I saw that episode of smash lab.

You should be fine... oh, where is the car's fresh air intake for the a/c? I wouldn't want loads of CO2 comming out the aircon vents...

I read a couple of tests on the Cryo2 air and fuel coolers. The small amount of HP gained in the tests was totally offset by the extra weight that was added.

However the intercooler sprayers faired a lot better. But the tests were on Turbo cars so I don't know if it would make a difference for a SC application.

how much cooler do you need? You already got a W/M system for that.

I think I might play around with this system - you can run either co2 or nitrous

Should keep me busy for a little while...

I'm running a nitrous intercooler sprayer using two of the Cryo2 top mount bars. Works really well to get things nice and frosty...

i have the cryo2 sprayer bar. but i'm just using nitrous solenoids... but it works pretty well.. if you worried about co2 getting into your intake you could do what i did. I just put weather stripping around the intake. it seals it off pretty well.

the sprayer looks interesting ... but also don't overlook a water / meth injection ...it will cool even more than just spraying the IC and has other benifits ...like cleaning the engine and the ability to adjust and set your ecu to map timing advance

Edit ... sory I just re read the post and you have H2o / meth.

Isn't there a point where it may be TO COLD ???

True; I want to eventually add water/meth injection on my car. Anyone know if it's safe to spray water/meth and nitrous at the same time? And if it's not can water/meth injection be turned off easily?

It is safe to spray both - several NAM members do it.

Randy from M7 has the alky control water/meth injection kit and runs the M7 venom nitrous kit.

Thumper460 (Mike from Thumper performance) runs a snow performance water/meth kit after the I/C in the down stream horn. He also has a NOS system plumed into the air horn just befor the I/C (It is a dry shot. 23 jet).

Misfitoy has run both for several years (don't know if he still does?).

Probably heaps more...

You can turn the water/meth off easily, most have on/off swithces

I really like the system Mike (aka Thumper) runs - the nitrous for cooling pre IC (you will get the cooling affect and added hp)

Maybe, maybe not... but unless I try it I will never know!

You can never run out of projects.

I run a modified M7 Venom NOS
Custom wet primary stage low rpm NOS system
Custom LP augmentation system
Custom direct port water/meth system

I have had my I/C sweat on a 100 degree day with the LP running through it.

noo problum coolruning mahn

if you really want cold intakes try a Meth injection system. this will also add some octane to the engine and help supliment the fuel.

if you still cant get your temps down then a 25-50shot of N2O just after the intercooler will deff reduce your temps!

also try running E85. it has a much higher octane then normal gas and thanks to being 85% ethanol should provided some cooling effects to!

Chris.

Don't forget, to make the best of E85 you need a completely different tune, upgraded fuel lines, seals & injectors, a different pump, and different engine seals.

Jay Leno's garage has a decent video called "E85 Demystified". It does a pretty good job of explaining what goes into E85 power. There isn't a direct link but it's in the Extras>Green section.

I'm hyped for E85 to be more widely available, it's just a pain to convert to. We also need to make it out of something other than corn.

Try DRIVING the car, not working on it. At some point you hit the point of diminishing returns...

what are you saying Matt I got that hint !

Malcon thanks .

chuntington101 would you not agree that using NOS as a cooler is exotic and a bit expensive for the short term cooling effect you get ?
