Drivetrain crank pulley install without oem tools
What Abuzavi didn't mention were the 3 other tools (not OEM) that were used, broken, welded on and broken again before the cutting wheel was called on!!
In the end, the job was successful. And, no, it wasn't either of our cars!!
Do yourself a favor and buy the right tool, whatever the cost. If you don't, and have to go down this road, the repair will cost more than the tool would have!
Cheers!!

i cant handle it, thanks. going for the oems. does anyone know if you can get the parts any cheaper than what minimania offers (removal tool $149, pulley wrench $90, and installer $122)
Unless the prices have changed dramatically (which is possible given the tanking $), that's a lot more than I was quoted when I inquired about these tools from Classic MINI last year, so I'd give them a call.
Crank Holder: 90-88-0-118-460
Pulley Extractor: 90-88-0-118-450
Pulley Installer: 83-30-0-493-982 (this # changed a couple of times, so don't shoot me if it changed again)
Thread Protector: 90-88-0-118-270
I did a parts inquiry to Pelican Parts and they gave me the same prices.
I searched other BMW & German car tool sources, but was unable to find anything equal or close enough to make me comfortable.
I'll be buying these tools as well... despite my attempts to talk a friend of mine out of replacing the crank pulley... but probably not until this Fall... so if you buy the tools, use them and want to sell them to re-coup most of the cost, send me a PM.

No change to the Pulley Installer number.
I didn't order the Crank Holder so I don't know if that one changed.
Note: the extractor worked for the original crank pulley on my 2005 MCS, but the holes for the three bolts that screw into the pulley didn't line up on the new replacement crank pulley.
