Let me first of all state that i love to drive my - very much unpaid for - mcs and as for mechanical knowledge, i was missing when God was passing those genes out. i couldn't tell a spanner from a screwdriver. But i felt my mcs lacked just that little bit of xtra power. So decided to call Randy at Mini-MotorSport in Denver, discussed upgrading and with his suggestions made an upgrade date. So it was off to Denver from Nebraska, met with Randy. He installed alta pulley, alta intake, Magnaflow exhaust, ECU upgrade, front brake pads, and rear sway bar in a morning. It was truly amazing watching him work. He explained everything as he went even though he knew i hadn't a clue what he was talking about. Yet the best was still to come.  THE TEST DRIVE BY RANDY. yes my good friends that was indeed the highlight First in my car then in his red rocket, in the hands of a great driver the mini is a great car. the smile is still on my face. As for my impression of my Randy Modded mcs. Well we went up to Dillon for the rest of the weekend to satisfy the bedgrudging wife. From Denver to Dillon 6th gear all the way, never had to change down to pass. 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105 mph nagging wife, 85mph - no problem. Being driving the back roads at night around here, 130 mph not too much effort. Gave a guy the Randy Modded mcs to drive, he had test driven a demo mcs at Baron the week before. He couldn't believe the difference. So all in all Randy is the man. And if you love your mcs these mods are for you.

You must have been at a certain autocross in Lincoln on Sunday! Glad the tire pressure adjustment helped on your last run.

I would be the guy that you graciously let test your MCS. It was amazing how much low end power your modded MINI made over the one I test drove at Baron MINI in KC.

Thanks for the test drive and hope to see you at the next autocross!

Tim

marzeetc,

You are now forever lost young man, just like the rest of us who've had their MCS moddeded by Randy. You are hereby sentenced to wander the highways and byroads for eternity, with the permanent smile plastered all over your face, motoring on in your MCS.

Its like turning into a vampire. Once you join....you can never leave.

Oh I meant to ask - how have the mods changed the *character* of the Mini? For instance, have the new brake pads made the brakes touchy? Does the car seem more jerky and/or uncomfortable? Is the exhaust much louder? I'd really like to know - These are the same mods I'm hoping to get yet I want my Mini to feel like a Mini if UKWI mean - thanks!

Cat,

Does it ever change the character of your MCS. May I suggest that on your cross country return from Ohio to California, you drop by Denver for a little mod?

Don't tempt me!!!!!!! LOL!

Next year maybe I'll cruise on over to Randy's just for a test drive. Until then I'll just have to settle for testimonials.

Cat,
The car is much smoother, brakes are noisy though and the exhaust has a nice drown to it. If i could get the rattle out of the back, the car would be magnifico.
Got a warning from State Patrol yesterday . i had thought that the car was invisible.
Guess now i'll have to slow down.
over and out

Hey Tim,
Lincoln was a blast. If i could learn to drive smoother then it would be powerful. David had a great time also. He is a car freek. We need to get him into something with hand controls. We hope to be in Council Bluffs. the mini is going to Barons on the 6th for 10,000 mile service. so ihave to convince the wife we have to be back on sunday. Hope you will be there.

Unless Randy would object, could you give me an idea of what the mods cost you?

Anecdote: I took a ride in a similarly modded MCS yesterday and what a blast, 75 in second gear! As we observed two local cops sitting at a gas station I asked Graham, the owner of the car, "So what do police think of these car?" He replied "I don't think they know what to think of them, some drivers have gotten out of tickets by claiming with indignation "Your radar must be wrong, how can a little 4 cyl car like that possible go that fast?"

Cost of mods - here is a basic run down:

Intake installed $200
Pulley installed $400
ECU installed $690
Magnaflow installed $670
Swaybar installed $270
Ferodo pads installed $200

These are "ish" prices based on labor - I charge what it takes usually (except for the pulley), and if you have them all done at the same time, there is some redundant labor.

Feel free to contact me even if you just want to chat about labor rates and install times for your area to get an idea.
