Drivetrain Pulley Swap FTF...(minor rant)
Pulley Swap FTF...(minor rant)
... or "How I spent 3 days on a pulley swap and STILL didn't accomplish
" I thought I'd do the smart thing and order everything in advance (except the torque wrench) I bought a crow's foot pulley puller, an extra jack stand, belt tensioner tool, etc., etc. My pulley arrives and I'm ready... but my schedule prevented any action until this weekend. I pulled everything out of the packaging and guess what, my puller (which I got from Sears labeled as a Steering wheel/PULLEY puller) was too small
So I go in search of a bigger one. Turns out, the Germans don't seem to know WTF a crow's foot is and all they have are the 3-prong claw type. So I get the only one I could find that was big enough to grip around the Alta Pulley Tool and small enough to fit under the bonnet. So NOW I have everything I need, except now I can't get the damned engine up high enough to get at the SC. I play around with it for a day, lifting and lowering, until just a little while ago when I FINALLY manage to get good clearance. I throw the Alta tool on and then hook the "Claw" on to it, being careful to make sure it's nice and level/evenly hooked. I turn the bolt to pull the std pulley off (MAN that thing's on there good) and then "CRACK!!" I shear one of the arms off of the puller
Ok, it was just a bolt, but it held the arm on. Still... I think it's time to take a break
That's all, just a rant. If anyone knows of a good installer near Stuttgart...
Thanks for listening
