Drivetrain Pinging under load...Knock sensor, High compression?
I had Jan tune my car as well and put alot of time into it. At the end I still thought it had some pinging at WOT and had Jan work with the ecu a bit more. It turned out that this pinging, ticking, and knocking sound was coming from my front driver side axel. Are you sure the pinging sound you are hearing is from the upper middle dash or somewhere around the lower driver or passenger area ?
What was wrong with the axle and what did you do for a fix?
I have not done anything yet. The noise is coming from the axle/trans area. It sounds just like pinging to me but not from where it's suppose to be coming from. I have to check it out and ensure myself that it's a drivetrain noise.
Post Jan Visit Update...
OK all you pingophobes or pingophiles, whichever it may be, I saw Jan today and the problem has been cleared up!
Since the car was not running properly during the first tune, I replaced the plug wires, cleaned the MAFS, ran Seafoam through the gas tank, then ran half a can of Seafoam through the exit side of the intercooler. After all this, we had pinging when I stomped the pedal in second and third gear from 2800 to 3200 rpm. After multiple runs, and checking IATs, the pinging subsided to a couple of ticks when IATs were at 150 or just below. From 140 down, the pinging stopped. The pinging only happened when I floored it AT 2800 to 3200 rpm. If I floored it at, say, 2500 rpm, no pinging through the rpm range.
Now, the car pulls better than it ever has, goes through the gears quicker and is a joy to drive once again. There were a number of time where I chirpped second gear without really trying!
My hats off the Jan for taking the time to dial my Frankenstein beast in. I suspect there will be some wine coming your way. For as we all know, when the wife is happy.........
Feliz Noche!
