alta tuned unichip

so lastweek i called and talked to Ken over at Alta. and ordered my unichip alta tuned. he asked me what my mods are and i told him " 16% pulley, milltek header, milltek catback, ddm CAI. and saturday I recieved and intalled my unichip. and i must say wasnt so hard to intall, took me about 1hr, grainted then only thing i had to remove was the top to the CAI so i could get to the loom that goes through the fire wall.

well my first thought was ehh, but that was becuase i was expecting something it wasnt going to produce, so i turned it off drove around for a while, then turned it back on. There is a huge difference boost kicks in alot lower. supercharger gets louder up top, and is more audible at the lower rpms.

still not sure on full throttle but partial throttle (daily drivablity) feels like it did when i was at full throttle before the chip. definatly a totally different ride and i love it, ill try to get by the dyno shop this week, and show the results

So you think it was worth it? It doesn't sound like it puts up the same numbers that the R56 version does. (mind you its a turbo, so...)

if it was the alta unichip or rmw tune i would have went with rmw, but i dont justify driving 8-15 hours for a tune. i dont justify price for the unichip either , but i do understand you have to pay to play and i am defiantly happy with it

just to be sure I understand what you did... you already had a Unichip and you sent it to Alta for them to do their thing to it?

your car was not driveable while the chip was out, right?

if you don't mind, what sort of $$ ballpark?

no i did not have a unichip, i ordered one from alta and gave them my mods , they had a sale price of 550 tuned so i bought one. but i may or may not get bigger injectors and will have to send it down again , ken told me that the charge for a remap is $50 plus me shipping it wich isnt to bad. i see in your sig you have basically everything i do, do you know what power you have down?

just bot my MINI a couple of months ago, previous owner had done all the mods.

he gave me several pages of calculations, estimates, comparisons to other peoples' documented (dyno-ed) mods, etc. he estimates 205-210 HP.

he put the Unichip in, I'm just learning about all this... is it possible that somebody else could tune my Unichip to make it even better?

well if it wasnt tuned by alta then id say get it tuned by them. but also to my understanding there are a couple of places that are unichip certified and can tune it on the dyno for best results. you will have to go unichip.com for that info though

alta unichip offers 14whp and 5tq and much nicer looking a/f ratios thanks Ken and the temp was about 15-20 degrees hotter today then the first time before th unichip

When you say you "turned it off" how did you do that? Is there an on/off switch I am not aware of? I have the older GP

do you guys have a flat spot around 3k RPM? im on v42.

did the alta unichip rid that at all? i had the original unichip
when it first came out and it didn't seem to do much other
than throw MIL's on occasion.

Wouldn't the hp/tq increase depend on the mods though?

so no one can comment on the 3K RPM flat spot? it's meaningless if
the unit can't rid the flat spot imho for street use cause that range is mostly
used after making a turn.

i didnt have any flat spot, even before, but id call ken at alta and see what he can do for you. i know they can reprogram it anytime you want and ive had it for almost a week and havent had any lights come on.

but as far the as the tq goes i didnt add any mods from one dyno to the other just added the unichip

and yes on mine there is basically and on/off button, on is alta's custom tune, and off is unichips basic tune wich is slightly better then stock but nothing to shake a stick at
