>>Looks sharp - but a really stupid question - you can't paint carbon fiber correct? Just wondering how it would look on an IB or PW MCS...

Sure, you can paint it. Carbon fiber is just fiberglass with delusions of grandeur.

I hope that most MINI owners will paint their hood to match the rest of the car. I certainly would if I got one. Not doing so would look sooooo ricey. If you're just doing this for the look <cough>, save yourself some money and paint your hood black!

So, it sounds like it's 16 lbs lighter than stock. Hmmm. I don't think I'm quite that desperate to lose weight yet. I'd be more tempted if it saved something like 25 pounds. (I had hoped that this was possible. I saw a carbon fiber door for a BMW that weighed only 7 pounds(!), minus all the hardware/glass/safety parts of course. I was hoping a MINI hood wouldn't weigh much more.)

Still, that looks like a nice product. If money grew on trees....

Well I can see a door weighing that much... It is one small form as opposed to the bonnet, which is the scond largest piece on the Mini.

Shedding it down to 19lbs is great...

If you wanted to lose 25 ... try a solitare layer of CF...

I'm sure you could custom order something like that, but One layer is good for a day at the track, with locking bolts... but not for the street.

It's a shame it's so expensive to create molds for product like this, and molds have to be remade after som many runs... otherwise you would see full body kits.... which could happen someday I would guess.

I think the CF look is beautiful... and if painted right, you could show off the weave and retain the cf look.

Looks gorgeous peter. Nice job. You can tell there was no corners cut. Wonder how much it would be to get all the car's body panels done in carbon fiber. I'd love to do the hood on my DS/W but I don't know if it would look right just having the hood be carbon fiber. Any chance at getting a shot with more of the car in it, to see how it looks with the DS car? Thanks again, look forward to seeing some more goodies.

How much weight could be saved by a CF hatch, maybe with something lighter than glass for the rear window?

Our C/F hoods we can get weigh only 9-10 lbs.

Is this hood purely cabon fiber? Or is there fiberglass layed in there somewhere?

Hi Tom

At $800 don't expect 9lbs hood sure we can make the hood light as a feather the problem commes when Mr. Smith want's
to use it on his every day driver.... no stock latches or any other stock hard ware you will use race fasteners of some kind, good at the track lousy on main Street USA. I could sell 59 superlight hoods for $1499 or 500units at $799.
And to answer the question is there fiberglass in the hood sure there is the reinforcement ribbs that are fiberglass.
Hope that answered the question.

Wasn't trying to rip you Peter. The hoods we get are 400 bucks more so obviously we'd rather not spend the extra $$$ if possible. And 10lbs isn't a lot more weight.

The hoods we get do latch just like the stock car. No hood pins involved. Also ours don't look nearly as pretty and shiney as yours. Ours is made to be primed and painted, not show off the beautful weave, however the weave is perfect.

You definatly have the right product at the right price for most everyone looking for a CF hood.

The hood looks great. A suggestion for people who want to paint them, yet show off the CF, is to leave two strips unpainted, as hood stripes.

I'm looking foward to seeing CF doors and hatch, those should yield even greater weight savings.

could the CF hood be painted but with the CF still showing, so that it looks like you have colored CF? From a distance it will look like you have a stock hood but when you get up close you can see the CF...just a thought

an S hood could be put on a cooper couldn't it? you could use the scoop to duct more air to the intake so that it was functunal too.
