Soo I worked realy hard to get the images up on the board but to no avail....Buuut her's the URL where they can be found.

Could some one please help me getting them up on this thread.........

Now to all the questions.......

1. Weight stock hood no lights or flares.......... 35lbs

2. M7 Carbon Hood same config.............19lbs

3. Crumple zone.......Mighty answered that.

4. Tasty flares.................. you will love em.

How to install. I will make a how to thread asap , but anyone with average mechanical skills will be able to install
the hood with little help from a friend. All holes will be pre drilled and it should not take more then 2 hours to complete.
I tried to convey the absolutely beutifull surface finnish in the hood, and you can also see the perfect fit of the
headlights. Now with this said it will be even more impressive when the mold gets used a couple of times..

Looks sharp - but a really stupid question - you can't paint carbon fiber correct? Just wondering how it would look on an IB or PW MCS...

 

The inner surface on the pre-production hood was OK but not finnished, take my word it's going to be as nice as the
top, only black painted. And yes you can paint the hood .

Just to clarify, I work on an all composite aircraft everyday. It does not take a serious smacking to damage it. Because of the diagonal varying weave of the composite, it is inherently stronger and lighter than steel. This is a good thing, but remember, when you stratch steel, you get a stratch. When you stratch composite, you destroy the layers of strands that make the composite bonded together. It is durable, but not overly so. Likewise if you hit it with a hammer. Steel dents, while composite breaks. You'll get a hole not a dent.
It doesn't have anything to do with crumple zones, etc, and the paint and resin on the top makes the composite durable, but not invincible.

well, I'm sure it would take a mighty whack from a hammer to punch a hole in it.

It would take a lot to puncture a hole in it.

We've used the same technique to create safety housing for the understructures of Dinosaurs with hydrolics. And when those things go afoul... it's serious... and the cf is there to protect everyone and everything...and it has.

I still stand by what I said...It would still take a serious Smacking to damge it.


If you are worried about crumple zones and madmen with hammers... don't buy a CF bonnet.

 

I was just trying to impart a little more concern than what you conveyed. Perhaps the thickness and construction of what you work with makes the durability of the composites seem like it is invincible. I'm not so sure in curved, formed, lighter and thinner pieces would the composite be just as durable. I'd imagine that you also aren't concerned about the asthetics of the piece after something goes wrong.
I guess my hammer anology was a little to radical for you, you must never drop a tool.

BTW, m7.... I noticed the pictures were of an MCS optioned with the light washers. The chrome on these lights compared to non-washer lights is much thicker in width around the jet area. I dunno how the light attaches, would there be any conflict of fitment?

A replacement bonnet from the dealer, unpainted = Nearwheres $400 now add paint.
what's that ? About $400?

Does the weight listed above include the underside insulation, hardware and what-not of the stock hood? If so, does the weight for the carbon fiber hood include these parts?

Low... if he is producing per-order.

 

Not that I have any control over it, but it might be time for M7 to step up and start paying for advertising on MCO.
