thermostat

my mileage is over 70k and im thinking of doing some preventative maint....i want to change the t-stat and rad hoses and do a full flush...is the m7 t-stat worth the money or just stick with stock or is there another option...also im looking at the samco hoses or are there other options out there...any user opinions appreciated

I feel that the M7 T stat is a good option ... more of a complimentry part to work with other mods...Keeping the temp down changes the timing advance.

They do not come with a new gasket and if you are getting in there and changing it ... buy a new gskt.

I have read about some throwing a code " coolent under temp" with the M7.

Agood system bleed, Good quality coolent mixed in the right ratio and a "water wetter" are a must with the M7 or OEM.

oh i plan on flushing the entire system out but i figure while i have it drained i would go ahead and replace the hoses now...instead of when i least expect it...plus with it getting up there in mileage its just a matter of time

DITTO

The bad thing is as far as I know you can not buy just the gasket. So be very careful when you install it.

I ran an M7 for about three years and have installed a few with no problems of engine codes or getting to operating temperture. Now I run a homebrew thermostat of my own.

I had the M7 for a while (until the dealer replaced it when I had a leak). You will not throw a code living in San Diego. I never once threw a code up here in the bay area. It did keep my temps lower, and I will be installing it again when I get some time.

I am in california (east bay... 30 min to the HOT side of SFO).
My son also has the T stat.

We both throw a code about every other month for "low coolent temp" MORE often in cold months ...

But them I am on the ragged edge and throw a code almost weekly ..... my reader is ALWAYS with me.

Hi,

May I know roughly at what cold temperature, the computer will throw the "low coolent temp" code ? less than 10 Celsius ?

Thanks

Replace the thermostat housing while you're at it. It will warp sooner or later if it hasn't already been updated.

It seems to be partially due to ambient temp ... but even last weekend when it was around 85 (30c) I still had a code.

More the warm up prociedure ...and driveng style.

If I am very sedate at initial warm up still not high "core" temp and only just fully off the Choke /enrichment cycle and I then find a cooy shaded road and do some sight seeing ... I will throw a code.

If I am a bit more spirited and remain to be that way off of choke /enrichment I will not throw a code on that trip.

I can almost make it happen if I want to ... (or not)

I agree. Same situation for me in Fl. I will occasionally throw one here in temps ranging from 80 to 92. Have DDM intake, Borla catback, M7 16% pulley, Detroit BPV, and one step colder plugs.

I have tried almost the same as you regarding leaving the house and duplicating the last trip as close as possible with same driving conditions. I also agree on choke/enrichment cycle.

I have also found that if I have the patience to fire her and let it idle for 1-2 minutes max, it will usually not do it. Very sporadic, but not that inconvenient. As for the code reader....yeah, mine is always onboard also.
