Overboost Problem Help

Please help. Any ideas?
The car has been producing up to 20 lbs. boost. It's throwing code P0108 with the service ingine soon and dsc lights appearing. Changed the belt tensioner pulley not long ago (2 months). Checked all the vacuum lines. No problems. Any thoughts. Thanks. Peace.

Lower the boost? With that much boost going through a stock bottom end something's going to give eventually...

What mods are on the car? A 19% s/c pully and a -3% crank are not a good combination.

Very funny, but i don't think so.
The car has a 16% pulley, no crank pulley. Usually when this happens it means the tensioner pulley is bad, but since it was recently changed, I thought there might be others who have some insight into the problem. I am not interested in another bottom end yet. Thanks.

That's a LOT of boost for just a 16%. I ran 15 or so with a 15% pulley. 1% gives you another 5 PSI of boost?

my 19% is only making about 15psi (17 with water on the intercooler). How you are making 20 is beyond me. Even with the BPV stuck shut, it does not make more than 15. I used to have the service engine soon and DSC light come on when I would do a pull to 7200, but not because I am overboosting, probably over-revving. Is that code for engine overspeed?

I have to ask, how do you know its putting out 20? also who has been reading the codes? I am just trying to cover all bases before throwing out ideas.

how about what type of boost gauge do you run and where are you taking measurements from? I can touch 20 psi at 7000 with a 19% pulley, so I would be surprised if you were hitting that with a 16%, maybe its some kind of boost gauge malfunction.

I was thinking the samething.

I run a 19% and hit right at 18psi. No codes or lights

Maybe your IC is getting plugged up. The reduced flow would increase the boost. I seem to remember that flaking SC rotor material has been reported to clog up the IC.

I have the same problem...mine happened after I upgraded the head last summer. Does it go off when you turn the engine off and restart. When I start the engine it's off until I give it partial throttle and then on it comes and stay's on...Could it be the belt tensioner or possibly a vacuum leak? I have changed both MAP sensors and still no fix.

After a head upgrade you should be making LESS boost, not more...

What are you running for tuning? Both of you... Unichip?

more than likely, your cat is plugged up

have you run leaded gas through your car?

The correct answer goes to RMW. A melted cat. This is the 3rd or 4th cat. I haven't run leaded gas. It just seems like since the head along with my driving tendencies, cats don't last too long. Is there any particular cat out there that outlasts the others?

give me a call when you can, I have a pretty good cat that seems to hold up well. More than likely your tune is off if you have burned up that many cats

Hey Jan, since I'm signed up for your weekend in Chicago (July 12) should I wait till the beginning of July to put a new cat on? Also I plan on putting on one of your cams on before the tuning party, should I wait till that time as well (beginning of July) to do the install.

Sorry to drag up an older thread--but how do you know if your cat is melted? I don't believe I've changed mine yet---I'm at 90,000 miles...I started getting the P0108 recently under WOT--seems to happen on colder days. The only change I've made in the past months when I wasn't doing WOT was go from a 16% to a 17% pulley.
