Very interesting ...
Sound aside, are side pipes legal ?
I thought the exhaust had to be behind the rear axle

There may or may not be legal issues with adding *aftermarket* side pipes to a car not originally equipped with them, but I know of at least one current-model car that comes with side pipes from the factory (Dodge Viper), and I'm sure there are others, so I don't think there's anything inherently illegal about the exhaust exiting forward of the rear axle.

These are legal, and they exit just aft of the front tire!

So how loud is it

Also remember that back pressure is you friend for torque and pull.
Ohh ... and keeping the neighbors happy.

What about putting a turbo muffler or similar where the resinator is ?

I can believe it sounds pretty bad ***. I ran a side-pipe on an old BMW of mine, I have pics and sound clips if anyone's interested.

Technically this is illegal in most states, as they don't allow any exhaust modifications. In those other states, I believe that the exhaust has to exit behind the rear most opening to the cockpit, which would make this setup mostly legal.

Im running straight pipe on my r53, and its causing it to run dangerously lean, Jan could only tune it so much, might want to make sure thats not the case with your also, bad for it

I am pretty sure the laws in australia is that the exhaust has to exit behind the passenger compartment doors or opening windows. If that is the case it would be legal, look awesome too when it is tipped properly.

I had a Remus and removed the mufflers and ran straight pipe that was welded onto the Remus tips... HOLY CRAP was it loud.. However, it really sounded sick when you got WOT. The best part was coming up to a elderly couple in there Caddy and dropping it a gear or two and then giving it all she had...The look on there faces was priceless... It did seen to pull harder in the upper rpms as well.
