Helix vs. B&M short shifters

Does anyone have experience with either of these short shifters? The Helix is much cheaper (by about 100$) but I've heard good things about B&M with their participation in drag racing. Is the B&M shifter a true short shifter or is it just a shorter stalk where you have to reach down a lot farther to the shift ****?

Hello Wing:

I have heard great things about the B and M short shifter as well. The only problem is locating one. They are discontinued. There is some availability for the 02-04 model years. The earlier shifter from my understanding is a shorter shifter.

Be careful if you have a 04 cooper. The build date on mine is Feb 2004, but still requires the new style B and M shifter. That one is the same height as stock. The newer shifter is very difficult to find. I am still trying to klocate one.

My coop is a 2005. Shouldn't be an issue.

Hi Wing:

I called them last week and they said that they were out and could not get any more. Do you know if they got in a shipment?

No experience with B&M, but I did like my Helix. Bought it for 2 main reasons you've already pointed out: 1) great price and 2) retains standard height of ****.

Helix here and have been very happy with it, I also wanted to retain the stock shifter height...

Does the helix come with installation instructions? Is it a hard install?

EDIT: Nevermind, just went and read back at detroittuned and it does come with instructions. I don't own jack stands though... HMMMMM
