Clicking on take off

Anybody ever hear of this:

When taking off from a stop I get 1 click. I thought it was possibly the clutch but somtimes I can get it to click if I accelerate smoothly then let off the gas...when the cars weight transfers due to deceleration I can sometimes get it to make the click sound. Also sometimes it will do it on a 1-2 shift. I am thinking the weight transfer is causing this some how. If I really try hard to take off as smooth as possible I get no click but also very little weight transfer. Anybody know what this could be?

Thanks!

would warranty cover this or would it be considered wear and tear?

Are you sure it isn't the switch at the bottom of the clutch letting the car know the clutch is fully depressed? I just checked my 06 MCS and without the key it doesn't do it, but with the ignition clicked on depressing the clutch makes the clicking noise I believe you are speaking of.

On-topic... I get a continuous clicking during idol sometimes. I can pin-point it to under the car. I passed it off as unimportant. Call me nuts.

I have the same noise. Mine does it under moderate to heavy acceleration or quickly coming off the gas and slowing down without the brakes. To me it sounds like a weight transfer noise, still makes the noise with the TSW engine damper installed.

When it goes in for rear brakes soon I am going to have it looked at again, it's been doing it for the last 20k miles each time it goes in I try and get them to find it, they haven't yet.

There was an issue back in 05 with half-shafts that would click on starting from a stop. A number of people (including myself) got them replaced under warranty and it fixed the issue.

I believe it was primarily on the driver's side.

The common clicking sound sounds like two pool ***** hitting each other once. This is a common problem and is usually random and hard to replicate for the dealer. I have narrowed mine down to the outer CV joint, but I can't make it happen every time so that someone can hear it.

I don't know how the CV joints take the abuse that most of us give them. I'll be getting more serious about getting them replaced when I get closer to the end of my warranty.

Totally correct (other people have told me this), mine is a 2005 and has this noise but I cannot get the dealer to fix it as they say "we have never heard of that before"

My 05 S/JCW with 18k went to the dealer for a 4 wheel alignment and a sunroof leak issue. The leak was fixed. After the alignment, sensitivity around neutral steering is much better. But, now... I have a click sound which happens upon clutch release in first, second, and third. It is just one click that sounds exactly like the small metal cricket clickers I played with as a kid back in the fifties. The cricket clicker would make two clicks-the first higher pitch than the second. I sense/feel the single click noise through the clutch pedal ever so slightly.
What really bums me out is this problem did not exist before taking it to the dealer for an entirely unrelated service/repair. Was I the victim of some snot-nosed technician, who perhaps consumed one to many quad-mochas from Starbucks and loved to see billowy clouds of tire smoke as he raced backed to the service bay. OK, so my imagination is a wee bit carried away, but I'm still suspect.
So, I guess the ball is in the dealers court and I wait to see if they play or pass.

I brought my mini in complaining of a creaking clutch pedal, turns out the throwout bearing was the culprit, so I ended up getting a new (refurbished?) clutch, that may be your noise. I never noticed feeling anything in the pedal, just wanted them to grease the spring in the pedal. Seems like it is a moderately common thing though.

I still have the front end suspension noise, going to try and get them to really locate it the next time I head to the dealer.

I would look in your engine bay and see if there is some black goo running down the passanger side frame rail below your engine mount. typically this goes bad in the 05 and later cars, but im sure they can go bad on other years. I have had two go bad in my car so far. my engine damper helped but didn't cure the problem.

here is a pic of what to look for. (I know my engines dirty, but its broken anyways)

I had the same noise but only when I let my foot off the gas. Took it to the dealer and they found what it was after the second try. After the technician changed out my flywheel (another issue) he didn't torque the transmission mount bolt and it came loose enough to make a clicking sound when I let my foot off the gas. Might want to check that out. Also, this should be covered under your warranty.

Another thing that can cause a clicking is the hydraulic engine mount on the passenger side of the MINI. Check to see if you have any sort of fluid leaking from it. This is the first thing I would check. The mount is almost guaranteed to go bad sooner or later. Mine was changed out during my last trip to the dealer and that was their initial diagnosis. This is also covered by your warranty.

I have noticed mine doing this recently as well. Too bad it is such a pain for me to take the thing to the dealer, otherwise I would have this along with about a half dozen other things looked at. It basically sounds like to pool ***** hitting each other. It sounds like it is coming from the passenger side, and no, there isnt fluid coming from the motor mount.

Mine's been doing this for about 1 year now. Hasn't got any worse in the past few months though. Same thing you describe... noise seems to come from the passenger side, sounds like pool ***** clicking. I only can hear it with the right window down & if I'm near a wall or something that reflects the sound. Almost seems worse when cold, and is only noticeable when I'm accelerating. The harder I accelerate the worse it is, usually in 2cd gear.

I've been meaning to put a microphone in the engine compartment to take a listen, as I was trying to debate if it was the s/c or the CV. My engine mount was replaced last year and it didn't make a difference. I added the LOTF engine damper right after getting the new mount, but recently changed to the VIP adapter & like it better. The other one was getting soft...
