New BMS intake
Hey guys,
Please note use of the word intake above is intended to be tongue and cheek.
I'm on a hiatus from the R56 ECU project as I wait for a few new parts to come in. But in the mean time I wanted to share some pictures of the new K&N filter I threw on my car. We do a lot of business with K&N with our BMW intake, so I had them throw together something for my R56.
What's different between this filter and the average Pep Boys or eBay filter is the opening is designed to fit on the MAF without an adapter, and the base is extra thick rubber with an offset opening to allow the filter to mount. I am really happy with the fit. I used a long ziptie to secure the filter and cold air inlet to the base, and it works great.
I spent a few days monitoring IAT and air/fuel ratios, and both were within check. Intake temp is around 10-15 degrees over stock with this setup vs. the stock airbox, and I understand if you remove the plate in the front of the scoop it will drop down a bit. I'll test that soon.
I've used K&N filters on MAF cars many times with great results, but just to be safe I had them apply less oil than they normally would.
Anyway I did this just to screw around with my car, but it came out so well I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in it. Price would be $70-80 shipped, custom ziptie and directions included.
