Drivetrain What should my boost read at different speeds/idle?
What should my boost read at different speeds/idle?
I just installed a boost gauge and was wondering if my gauge is reading correctly. When at idle at a stop light it is reading about -10 on the vac scale. Should it be 0 at idle? It drops to a dead even -20 vac when I let off the throttle. It gets up to about 13-14psi on full boost. Does all of that sound right, or do I have a problem? My biggest thing is why it doesn't sit at 0 when idling. Is it actually in vac mode at idle and low throttle situations?
Thanks!
Thanks!
you dont get 0 at idle because your car is in vac. you wont get 0 unless you are accelarating without giving it any real gas(by this i mean pushing the pedal down all the way). i have a boost gauge i installed and it reads the same way so dont worry. my boost reads a little higher when i have my ecu on but i had to send it back :( to get a new harness.
I am still stock except for a CAI. I am getting about 14 at wide open throttle at higher gears. For instance, I have a hard time getting over 0 in forst. Second tops around 5psi. 3rd gear around 10psi. 4th on up gets around 14 briefly at full throttle to get her going at the higher gear. Pretty liner increase of peak through the gears, which makes sense. I would guess messing with the ECU would help improve the acceleration through boost increase.
