Jan I've got a question. I got the impression that you do not need a dyno tuning a car, so I can send you my ECU for the tune and that's it. This system gives me the feeling that we still need your physical presence while tuning. So please clarify???

to remote tune properly we need this:

1 dyno (preferrably dyna pack)
1 wide band a/f data logger
1 fan for intercooler
1 fan for engine (bigger is always better in fan size)
1 internet connection or web cam so I can see the dyno info

sending canned flashes is ok but the not the best way to go when you really can get quite a bit more out of the car

How can you be sure that the dyno data are correct and accurate? In my city, there's only one dyno. Also, what's the data logger? Does it come with your system??

that's why you go to a respected place

the dyno will have an air/fuel data logger if they have the wideband

hmmmmmmmmmm, I do not wanna go off topic, but if you're going to do remote tuning then we've got to know how to pic up a respected dyno. For my case, we've got only one dyno so I'm stuck.

Anyways, I think from your experience you would be able to "feel" if the dyno readings are logical or not.

once you see the dyno graph you will know if it looks right or not

A newb question.
I understand that with a dyno you can much accurately tune a motor. Is there that much of a difference between Mini motors that each requires a dyno to get the tune right, or is it just because of all the different mods that might have been done to the car?

Thanx.

I would say yes to both each engine is different, thus the same "Mods" different engines will yield different results

So, if I find a good dyno, have a AFR wideband datalogger, and the internet connection, how does the remote tuning work? I send you the ECU file, then the run on the dyno with the logged data and you send back the tuned file?

What are the implications of not having the 2 fans?

Well, you get very high temps without the fans. I wouldn't risk it, but normally most dynos have them, at least here in Italy they do

The reason I asked is the shop that did my Dimsport tune only used one fan, and it wasn't mounted on the intercooler.
Apart form the boost leak problem that I had I was wondering if this had anything to do with the low dyno numbers?
I realise the more heat the less power but to what extent?
Anyone?
Please as I really need to get to the bottom of this!

On the dyno yr car is not idling so pushing air threw the IC and radiator approximates real world = cooling the engine. The implications are that yr engine is running hotter than real world conditions.

Its everything - stock motors aren't the same, mods aren't the same and climate - temp/altitude are not the same.

IC's are not the norm so a dyno shop may only have 1 fan to address radiator.

No doubt a heat soaked IC will affect yr numbers but the boost leak had to account for most of your problem. I've seen cars deteriorate 10 hp friom first run to say 5th run on the dyno w/ no other changes which is most likely caused by heat soak.

Without the fan on your intercooler your killing the hp. Without the fan it's like tuning your car while it sits at a stop light. You want the tuner to set the parameters while the cars temps are as close your real world driving conditions as possible.

The fans at most dyno's don't really come close to replicating 50 mph road wind. So... make sure they at least have a high powered small fan to sit or hold over the intercooler.

Thanks guys!
I don't have a lot of faith in my tuner as he had never done a mini before.
Mine was the first - he had to start somewhere!
Hopefully when I get the car back we will see what it is capable of (and with the addition of the newmans cam )

Patiently waiting also, no matter what label is on the box.

This is an IC dyno fan project I'm working on.

Obviously another man of good taste!

Yeah, definitely a nice fan I was wondering, wouldn't it be the top if you could tune the car directly on the road? This would eliminate any problem of replicating road conditions

The one listed is nothing like ours

We're still trying to find one that works well with the Cooper but we're struggling
